More than four years since Batman: Arkham Knight released to critical acclaim, a new game in the series may soon be announced. Roger Craig Smith, known by fans as the voice of Batman in Arkham Origins, has tweeted a cryptic but playful message that leaves little room for other options.

For a while following the announcement, fans of Smith and the Batman games speculated about other potential projects. There was a chance that the tweet was simply referring to another property, since Smith has worked on a broad range of projects. Aside from Batman, he has done the voice for Sonic the Hedgehog, Adam/He Man, Mirage from Apex Legends, Captain America in a number of cartoons, Kylo Ren for Star Wars: Battlefront II, and many more.

However, a Batman game seems the most logical outcome after Warner Bros PR manager Gary Miereanu thanked Smith in a follow up tweet and described that a reveal will be made “reasonably soon”. As the Arkham series of games was developed by Rocksteady Studios and WB Games in Montreal, this leaves little alternative.

If indeed we are seeing a sequel to Batman: Arkham Knight, there may be some truth to a rumor that was floating around only recently of a supposedly cancelled sequel featuring Damian Wayne, the son of Bruce Wayne who could assume the mantle of the hero.

This storyline would propel the characters in the story far into the future, with Bruce Wayne being a much older man and Damian grown from a child into adulthood. For this reason, it seems probable that this rumor remain little more than that, since such a plot propels all of the characters so far into the future that it would be awkward to ever make subsequent games set again in a time close to Arkham Knight. Unless such a project were made as a standalone game, it seems unlikely that the plot would center around an adult Damian Wayne.

Luckily, there are no shortage of stories that could adapted from the comics, cartoons, films, and more. The real question lies in who would make the best opponent in the series, excluding those who have already shown up, which leaves only a few options. In any event, it appears that we will know soon enough exactly what is being worked on over at WB Games in Montreal.
