There are a lot of superheroes out there who are granted really awesome superpowers that you and I wish we could have. I mean, who wouldn't want to shoot lasers through their eyes or would be able to fly. Superheroes such as Superman, Spider-Man, and Green Lantern were bestowed with their superpowers either naturally or by some accident. However, there is one hero out there that is simply awesome without even having any of the cool powers like the rest of them.

Batman is one of those characters that is cool beyond words and what makes him such a tough-as-nails hero is that he takes on the bad guys without any superpowers. His greatness lies in his talents and the way he plans and executes his schemes. It shows how much of a threat he is to wrongdoers. In my opinion, Batman is the ultimate hero because he is like you and me but he still manages to take down foes much more powerful than himself.

Throughout Batman’s career as a crime fighter, he has sustained injuries and circumstances that altered the way his body functions. To showcase some of the most bizarre facts about his body, we have compiled a list of 20 strange facts that are fascinating to wrap your head around. So sit back and enjoy the strange awesomeness below.

20 Unlimited Knowledge!

via thecheatsheet.com

Batman is known as the hero without any real superpowers, but that isn't strictly true. Batman has had superpowers on some occasions, making him the most powerful character in the DC universe. Batman once became the God of Knowledge after sitting on the all-seeing Metron's Mobius Chair. This chair granted him the powers of a God!

Batman became the most powerful being in the universe

This storyline was seen in the “Darkseid War” comic created by Jason Fabok and Geoff Johns Justice League 42. The story basically revolves around how Batman uses his powers to stop crimes before they even happen. The chair grants him immortality, unlimited knowledge, and telepathic abilities. His body achieved such a God-like state that his need for food and sleep stopped existing.

19 Battle Scars

Batman might look like a beast with his muscle bulging and that menacing look. Still, Batman is actually a broken man — quite literally, actually. After all the battles that the Dark Knight has taken part in, he has sustained a number of serious injuries. Although Batman's butler Alfred uses his combat medical knowledge to patch Batman up, some of the deeper wounds and injuries have left him with scars all over his body.

Catwoman saw the battered shape of Batman’s body and she was left stunned by the damage he had sustained.

In The Dark Knight movies, Batman has been told by the doctor about the endless list of damage to his body including the damage to his brain and kidneys.

Everyone has thought about it. Seriously: how does Batman get to sleep with all the crime-fighting regime. Batman does go out in the night whenever we see him catching bad guys. This was quite a widespread topic that was under discussion and there are multiple explanations for that.

It is well known that Bruce Wayne would fight crimes all night and would rest during the Wayne Enterprises board meetings

He also pays his sleep debt late into the day. Various comic books, such as in Batman 682, by Grant Morrison and Lee Garbett, show that Batman functions without sleep by taking regular naps which lasts for a few seconds. Batman has also trained himself to achieve a full nights worth of sleep in just 3 hours. Who says Batman does not have any superpowers?....

17 Breaking Batman

via thesuperherohypeforum.com

Even though Batman is one of the best fighters in the superhero universe, there have been times when Batman has been injured to the point where he was almost bedridden. One such event took place when Batman came face to face with the notorious Bane. A fight of epic proportions broke out between the two which made it one of the most famous events in Batman’s history.

During the fight, Bane managed to grab hold of Batman and used his knee to damage Batman’s back

The injury was named as “fulcrum-type stress fracture.” However, Batman was headed back to his former glory by Doctor Shondra Kinsolving, who is a physiotherapist with some superhero healing powers. Kinsolving used all her power to heal Batman and in doing so she lost her state of mind and was stuck in a child-like state for quite a long time.

16 The Lazarus Pit

I don’t think it's wrong to call Batman a zombie. Zombies are basically the dead bodies that are brought back to life. The Lazarus Pit is a pond of mystical water that brings back people or any living thing back to life. Many of the villains in the Batman universe have used this pit to cheat the afterlife and return to life.

Batman is brought back to life by drinking from the Lazarus Pit

Ra’s al Ghul is the caretaker of this pit and he has used it the most amount of times. Batman used the pit as well when he was fighting Ra’s and a point came where Ra’s managed to skewer Batman with a shovel. Both Ra’s and Batman. In another reality, Batman used the Lazarus Pit to restore his youth.

15 Poison?—Pfft

via ramascreen.com

Batman is such a tough-as-nails character, that even poison has no effect on his body. The reason behind such immunity is that Batman conditioned his body by regularly exposing himself to multiple strains of poisons which increased the bodies tolerance, making him immune. Scarecrow is one of the creepiest villains in the Batman universe. Scarecrow uses his toxin to induce hallucinations of the deepest and darkest fears of his victims. Batman has been under the spell of this “Fear Toxin,” and after recovering from it, he developed special antibodies that make him much more resistant to the deadly gas. Batman once saved Gotham city from Scarecrow's Fear Toxin by spraying the whole town with his antibody curing them of the devastating attack.

14 Getting Old Isn't Fun

Batman has sustained so many injuries during his time as a crime fighter that getting old for him would not be the most pleasant thing out there. Mostly because being a normal human like you and me, he has sustained injuries that will worsen over time. This is true in most of the comics, but especially The Dark Knight III: The Master Race by Andy Kubert, Brian Azzarello, and Frank Miller. In nearly all of the realities, the story does not end well for Batman. In another comic, Kingdom Come by Alex Ross and Mark Waid, Batman had to wear a suit that supported him in his movements. This showed that even though Batman is one of the most powerful superheroes of all time, evenutally time will catch up to him. Brutal.

13 Iron Who?

There exists a suit of armor that was specially built by the Justice League for Batman. Its purpose is to use the wearers own metabolism to power the suit. Kind of like how Tony Stark is a “superhero” because of his Iron Man suit. Batman used his suit when his son, Robin Damian Wayne was ended. Batman, of course, when to the ends of the Earth to bring him back to life. During that time Batman found himself on Apokolips. Batman’s metabolism was powerful enough to power the suit and also defeat Darkseid in combat. Afterward, Batman continued his journey to bring his son back to life which he did by using a Chaos Shard. Batman was so exhausted by powering the suit that his body started to shed his irradiated skin and Batman almost collapsed because of the sheer strain of powering the suit.

12 Godlike Stamina And Intelligence

via twitter.com

Even though Batman does not have any superpowers. He has trained his body to a point where he has nearly unlimited stamina. Superpowers is a necessity when it comes to fighting crime and doing vigilante work. Batman has made up for his lack of superpowers by compensating with his stamina and intelligence. For a person to be able to solve the crime and fight bad guys, intelligence and stamina is a must. Batman showed the level of his stamina when he climbed out of the pit after Bane broke his back. Not only does this feat require an insane amount of willpower, it also requires a God-like level of stamina and resilience. His nearly perfect record as a detective is a showcase for how intelligent Batman is.

11 Darkseid Roasted Batman

The most formidable foe that exists in the DC universe is the mighty Darkseid. Batman once faced Darkseid face to face in battle, armed with only a gun that shoots bullets which have the power to end Darkseid. These bullets are called Radion bullets and it would have had the same effect as shooting Superman with a kryptonite bullet. The fight between Darkseid and Batman broke out and Batman managed to take down Darkseid with the gun. Still, as Darkseid was going down, he shot his Omega Beam towards Batman which burned him to a crisp. Afterward, it was shown that Superman was carrying the charred husk of Batman. Even though it was shown that Batman was a goner, it turns out that it was an alternate reality and Batman is perfectly fine in any other existence.

10 Master Of Combat

Since Batman is basically a man in a bat suit that is out to fight crime and bring justice to people who are in need, he has to make himself knowledgeable in different forms of combat. Of course, this is so that he can take out bad guys without getting hurt himself.  Needless to say, this transformed him from an everyday joe, to a guy who can break everything in your body while naming each part. Bruce trained himself in 127 different forms of martial arts some of which are Kickboxing, Capoeira, and Krav Maga. Some of his teachers are excellent fighters themselves such as Henri Ducard who is a master of combat and Wildcat who is a boxing God. With such a vast knowledge of crime fighting, Bruce has become one of the most competent fighters in the DC universe.

9 Time-Traveler Bat

Batman is known for his flawless plans and his perfect execution of these said plans. However, there is a problem with this strategy, usually, this makes his move a little predictable which in turn makes Batman vulnerable. Darkseid once sent Batman through time and space and later sent the Hyper-Adapter (a creature that binds to their host and uses the host as a vessel) after Batman. The Hyper-Adapter merged with Batman's time-traveling body and used it to destroy all the realities that exist. Imagine Hyper-Adapter and Batman merged together to destroy realities, it would not be a good day for us mere mortals. However, there is nothing to fear. Batman always finds a way out of situations like this. With a little help from his friends of course.

8 The Experimental Batman

What if told you that our beloved superhero, Batman, was used as a Guinea pig by mad scientists who experimented on him with different substances. Well, facts are facts, and in the comic book number 247 named Detective Comics, a mad scientist named Professor Milo used a chemical called the Phobia Liquid on Batman. This chemical was supposed to be used as a toxin that would make him afraid of Bats. Also, Batman was also forced to inhale a mysterious gas that was extracted from an “exotic Amazon plant” that made Batman so lazy and lethargic that he was close to not existing. Batman has also experimented with loneliness. He was isolated from everyone for a certain period of time, this made him hallucinate about Robin’s end.

7 The Secondary Batman

It would be wise to have a batman that has a backed up personality, in case things get grim and Batman, well, disappears forever. Doctor Hurt was the scientist who created a backup personality in Batman’s mind with a trigger word that would switch him to the alternate personality. After fighting Hurt in the comic Batman number 678, Hurt used the trigger word to switch batman to the secondary personality. This personality was full of hallucinations, but it is said that Batman felt clearer and his thinking became much more streamlined than it already is but it made him much more aggressive and much more hyperactive. The Joker and Hurt captured the batman after he fell into their trap and they introduced some kind of neurotoxin which ultimately brought back Batman to his actual self.

6 The Transforming Bat

With weird villains like the Scarecrow, Joker, Bane etc. You would assume that Batman would have been caught up in weirder stuff. You would assume right, of course. There have been multiple occasions in which Batman was transformed into a creature that is just plain strange. In one of the Batmans Comic, number 162, Batman is transformed into a Batman Creature by a mad scientist named Eric Barroc. The creatures are seen afterward wreaking havoc in the city of Gotham. There have been other moments in comics like the Sins of Youth and the Justice League Unlimited cartoons where Batman was magically transformed into a child. If you think that is bad, Batman was once transformed into monsters from multiple universes of Batman. It’s quite strange to find Batman being transformed into other beings ... Ultimately, it’s weird enough that he is a man in a bat suit.

5 Venom

via comixology.com

They say that substances are bad for you, and that anyone can get addicted to them. This holds true because the most powerful human in the DC universe was addicted to such things.

Batman has always been the strongest superhero, he used to lift weights in excess of 1000 lb

But, as he grew old and started to lose his strength, he could manage to bench only 600 lb. Since Batman is a perfectionist and would not tolerate this weakness, he started to use the same serum that Bane uses to increase his strength. This serum surely made Batman impossibly strong but it came with a catch, he would become addicted to this stuff and he would start to go insane. Realizing that Bane’s venom is making him more aggressive, he stopped cold turkey by locking himself in his Batcave for more than a month.

4 No Memories

Batman is no stranger to having lost his memory. In several occasions, Batman has suffered from injuries that made him forget who he is. Since Batman is physically an average human, he suffers from injuries the same way any average joe would. This made for some interesting moments when Batman sustained injuries. In one particular series called Batman: The Animated Series. Batman suffered a head injury that resulted in severe trauma, because of which he forgot who he is and entered a state of Dementia. In another such comic called the Batman Adventures number 34. Batman is zapped with a sinister laser that erased Batman's memory, All of his memories were erased except his childhood. Later on, the beam is used again to restore the memory and made Batman the same as before.

3 Batman Pumping Iron!

When the persona of Batman first came into being, he was a flimsy looking man in comics but as the time passed on Batman started to gain muscle and started to get buff allowing him to take down foes twice his size. During the casting of the latest Batman series, Ben Affleck was perfect in terms of size and proportions and to prepare for the role of Batman, he gained a huge amount of muscle.

At the time of filming the movie, Ben Affleck weighed nearly 220 lbs with only 7 percent body fat

In comparison, a normal person is somewhere between 15-18 percent body fat. Walter Norton was Ben Affleck’s trainer, and planned his workout routine for the role. With an intense workout like Batman's, no one needs to be a detective to know it will turn you into a superhero, really fast.

2 Anger as Fuel

If you think about it. Would you assume that Batman would still have become a crime fighter if his parents were still alive? The answer to this question would be a resounding no. Even with all the wealth in the world, the will to fight the bad guys comes from his past. The reason why Batman keeps on fighting bad guys and providing justice to those in need is that of the injustices he has faced during his childhood, mainly when his parents' passing. There have been times when Batman has almost given up fighting, but flashbacks of his parent's end remind him why he needs to continue. What we learn from Batman is that even though our pasts are the reason for our misery, we can use that pain and suffering to fight our demons and seek redemption.

1 The League Of Shadows Trained Batman

Batman is the only superhero in the DC universe who does not have any superpowers of his own. Still, rather than relying on these powers, he uses his intelligence, wealth, and fighting skills to handle his foes and achieve victory. Batman knows 127 forms of combat, and owes a lot of credit to The League of Shadows for teaching him. The League of Shadows is led by Ra’s al Ghul who is the keeper of the Lazarus Pit, and he uses this pit to stay alive for an indefinite amount of time. Batman was trained under Ra’s supervision but Batman later turns against the league after they ask him to end a criminal as a final test. Batman would later find out that the ultimate goal of Ra’s al Ghul was to destroy Gotham City.
