Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt

Tetris 99

You might've come across plenty of battle royale games that make you shoot other enemies, but there are very few featuring close-ranged melee combat, with Naraka: Bladepoint nailing this concept. Apart from that, this battle royale features some of the most beautifully designed characters and skins out there.

It puts you on a giant map with nothing in your hands, but you can quickly grab various types of melee weapons or bows to fight your enemies. The best part about this game is that it lets you play against bots for the first few games to ease you into the battle. However, reading and understanding the abilities of every hero can be a challenge with this one.

Call Of Duty: Warzone

If you're a beginner looking to dive into the battle royale genre, Call Of Duty: Warzone stands out as one of the best games to start with. The Call Of Duty franchise has a longstanding reputation as the go-to FPS for many players. Even if you're not an avid gamer, chances are you've participated in a death match in COD at some point. Warzone maintains the same fast-paced action the series is known for, but with two crucial changes: it's entirely free to play, and you compete against 149 other soldiers.

With frequent seasonal updates, a competitive scene that continues to thrive year-on-year, and enough charm and character to set it apart from other games on this list, Apex really is an excellent place to start if you want to play a battle royale.

Its roster of characters are all fun to use, and the weapons are well-balanced. The game's innovative ping system makes it easier to play with friends, or strangers, even without a mic. Crossplay is also supported across multiple platforms, including PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. What else could you ask for?

Totally Accurate Battlegrounds

Totally Accurate Battlegrounds is the sort of battle royale game that's designed to have you rolling around on the floor giggling with your mates. Which is a nice change of pace, as games in this genre often feel like they're more about stressing you out. It's definitely the jankiest battle royale title out of the bunch.

Aiming is impossible. You can put a sniper scope on a minigun. Rounds are fast-paced and full of ridiculousness. If you're looking for a more casual experience, Totally Accurate Battlegrounds is worth checking out. Though, keep in mind that it is a game best enjoyed with friends.

Fortnite

Fortnite is still one of the premium Battle Royales, but in reality, it has gone far beyond its humble beginnings as a 100-player fight to the death. Virtual concerts, in-game events, and enough cosmetics to keep your wallet empty for the next seven years, Fortnite is an experience as well as a battle royale.

This battle royale delves deeper into the fantasy world. Offering players unique magical abilities and mounts. Many new players get turned off by the complex building that Fortnite can have. Realm Royale does away with the building while keeping a similar feel to its combat.

Of course, there are added features unique to Realm Royale as well. An important feature is the ability to recover after being taken down. Players will turn into a chicken; if they survive for twenty seconds, they will respawn. This makes the game far less punishing for newcomers. Even if a match cannot be filled with players, bots can take their spot. Which also serves to lower the stakes a little. Super Animal Royale

Super Animal Royale leaped out of early access in 2021 and immediately became a hit with fans of the genre and newcomers alike. Taking inspiration from those classic, browser-based battle royale games, Super Animal Royale is a casual experience that will still get your heartbeat pumping.

The best way to describe Super Animal Royale is Animal Crossing, but if all the animals had an insatiable thirst for blood. Okay, it is nothing like Animal Crossing... It's a topdown battle royale with a range of weapons, vehicles (like a hamster ball that crushes your enemies when you roll over them), and lots of upgrades. It's a great place to start if you want to get used to the adrenaline of a battle royale title. Oh, and did we mention that it's completely free?

Fall Guys

Fall Guys took the world by storm when it was released, and while the hype has certainly quieted down over the past year or so, it still has a thriving community. As it should; it's still a fun and an excellent example of a laid-back (most of the time) battle royale you can play with your mates.

In Fall Guys a bunch of beans try to race to the end of a Takeshi's Castle-style assault course. Sometimes you will be teaming up to steal tails, other times it is every bean for themselves as you hop around obstacles and make it to the end goal. That's pretty much the game in a nutshell. The last bean standing wins a crown. These crowns can be used to purchase more interesting skins for your bean. Rinse and repeat. It is simple, honest fun!

Minecraft Hunger Games

Considered the birth of the online battle royale. Minecraft players created a Hunger Games style mode where players spawn in a circle and grab what they can to survive. Of course, with the freedom Minecraft allows, players made hundreds upon hundreds of different types of game modes, rules, weapons, and much more.

This is a great entry point for new players. Minecraft is generally a pretty intuitive game, that doesn't demand a whole lot from its players, so it is the perfect underpinning to build a user-friendly battle royale mode around. Even though the survival game mode might be a step above the base game in difficulty, it still asks for far less from the player than the majority of titles in this genre.
