Most of the time, open betas are set up so that the developers can test their game with as many people as possible to generate a good amount of feedback, but for larger publishers, betas can serve a dual purpose.

In the case of Battlefield 2042, it seems to have also given EA a good idea of just how many players are excited to dive into the next iteration of their longstanding multiplayer shooter. And that number, according to CEO Andrew Wilson, is 7.7 million.

As reported by VGC, Wilson dropped that number during EA’s recent second-quarter earnings call. He also noted that 3.1 million users took part in the early access beta, which was from October 8 to October 10. That’s the one that took place on Orbital with Conquest as the only available game mode. It’s also the one that DICE promised would feature double the amount of tanks when the game releases later this month.

There may have been some initial trepidation about the Battlefield 2042 beta, but things seemed to improve over the weeks as players discovered that they can get up to even more Battlefield mayhem with some of the new toys in 2042. The biggest of them was the grapple hook, which let players bunnyhop around the map, and drones, which were great suicide bombers since they didn't die after being exploded by C4.

If you missed the beta, then don't worry: there's a free trial starting November 12 for EA Play members, and since EA Play comes included, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers as well. If you've signed up for EA Play Pro, you don't even need to worry about the trial's 10-hour time limit. You can just keep playing thanks to your early access as part of your subscription fees.

Battlefield 2042 arrives on November 19 for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms.
