Engineers in Battlefield 2042 are now a more defensive class, utilizing powerful gadgets to prevent attackers from gaining the upper hand. This includes the use of turrets, remote-controlled rockets, and man-powered weapon emplacements. Boris sits firmly in the first category.

Boris controls the battlefield with his automated sentry gun, capable of taking on multiple infantry soldiers at once with some practice. Not only does this turret damage enemies, but it can also damage vehicles from a distance. A few Boris specialists can work together to lock down defense objectives or mow down infantry with ease. This guide will cover what makes Boris special, explain how his turret works, and provide some tips on how to use Boris effectively.

Boris Specialist Overview

Boris is an Engineer that specializes in defending against infantry. The SG-36 Sentry Gun is his signature gadget, targeting nearby infantry before firing in short bursts. This turret has a short delay before it fires on a target, reduced by standing near it thanks to the Sentry Operator passive. The turret is best used against infantry in tight chokepoints.

Engineers gain proficiency with LMGs, improving the weapon's accuracy while crouched or prone. Boris also has access to all Engineer secondary gadgets and throwable equipment. Boris will always spawn with a Repair Tool to fix damaged vehicles. His secondary gadget options include Anti-Tank Mines, every type of rocket launcher, C5 Explosives, and the EOD Bot. Most grenades are available to Engineers as well, notably the EMP Grenade which has great synergy with Boris' secondary gadget options.

Gadget And Passive

SG-36 Sentry Gun

Boris can deploy an SG-36 Sentry Gun anywhere on the battlefield. Targets within 55m of the turret will be targeted, assuming the turret has a direct line-of-sight to the target. Shots from the sentry gun suffer from damage falloff, so be wary of where you place it. The SG-36 can target any foe, including vehicles. Infantry take roughly 12 damage per shot, while vehicles take close to 2-3 damage. This makes the turret ideal against infantry targets and lackluster for countering vehicles.

The SG-36 Sentry Gun requires a short lock-on period before it can begin firing, denoting by a loud beeping sound. Once it locks on, the turret will fire in five-round bursts until the target is dead, breaks line-of-sight, or the turret shifts its attention to another foe. Boris' turret seems to bias aircraft and is terrible at damaging flying objects, so we suggest placing it indoors to ensure it only targets infantry and ground vehicles.

Sentry Operator

While Boris is standing within three meters of the SG-36, it will lock onto targets one second faster than normal. Despite the in-game description, the Sentry Operator passive does not increase Boris' turret damage, fire rate, or any other factors that would contribute to its DPS.

Tips And Tricks

• The SG-36 makes a loud beeping noise before it starts firing. Be wary of nearby foes when your turret locks on.
• Place your sentry turrets indoors to prevent them from targeting aircraft.
• Don't stick with your turret unless you're in a safe location. Most enemies assume that Boris is near his turret, causing them to deploy explosives.
• Pair the SG-36 with a Ranger drone to better defend against infantry.
• Consider playing alongside Irish to double down on your defensive capabilities.
