Battlefield 2042's first technical test goes live today and reportedly already has anti-cheat software in place.

Battlefield's first game in three years, Battlefield 2042 is slated to launch later this year. It will be very different from any Battlefield game that has come before. Largely since it won't include a single-player campaign. Unlike some other popular series, it also won't be throwing its hat into the battle royale ring. It will instead focus on multiplayer matches including the new Hazard Zone.

Even though Battlefield 2042 won't be here until October should all go to plan, a lucky few will get the chance to be the very first to play the game starting today. The game's invite-only technical test goes live later today and will run through the weekend. Even though players have signed an NDA in order to be a part of the test, one piece of information about it appears to have already leaked.

Insider Tom Henderson has revealed Battlefield 2042 appears to already include anti-cheat software. More specifically Easy Anticheat, the same software that is used by Apex Legends and Fortnite. Epic actually shared the software for free a while ago. Fall Guys also uses the same software which brought an end to Cheater Island, a server on which its team had gathered up all the cheaters so they were forced to play together.

Cheating is a big issue for all BR and online multiplayer games. Most notably Warzone which continues to try and tackle its cheaters in-house. The wording of Henderson's tweet almost sounds like a shot at Raven Software, the studio in charge of handling Warzone's cheaters. That EA and DICE already have an anti-cheat program with a good track record in place is a promising sign for those who plan on playing the game when it launches later this year.

Battlefield 2042 will feature 128-player lobbies, leaving a lot of room for potential cheaters. EA has already revealed there will be no risk of those lobbies not filling up, though. Bots will take up any free spaces in a lobby if there's a struggle to find 128 actual people, and there will be no way to turn that off for anyone who doesn't want to battle bots.
