Despite having an all-new mode called Firestorm, Battlefield V hasn't looked so hot in the press. With news of a forthcoming game mode being canceled due to bug fixes and simple game enhancements, the fandom itself became a storm of fire. Along with the rumors of dinosaurs being put into the game, the upcoming mode, 5v5 close combat endeavors, was highly anticipated but were pulled back in order to reassess Battlefield V's underlying issues.

The 4.4 update, closely following the recent launch of Chapter 4, allows players to rank up beyond 50 to level 500, introducing a whole new leveling system. New maps have also been added, like the North African Al Sundan, French Provence, and Norwegian Lofoten islands. DICE senior producer Ryan McArthur said the following in his online community letter:

"We're fully committed to expanding and improving our core multiplayer experience. That's why fixing the issues is our highest priority. This commitment will be met by keeping our focus and resources invested in producing the great content our players deserve."

One piece of content the fandom sorely deserved was the 5v5 mode that in cancellation, according to McArthur, was "vital for us to more quickly reach our bug-crushing and content goals."

With a whole slate of new and improved mechanics, as well as a trip to the Pacific theater, fans may find the 5v5 mode cancellation a relative godsend when compared to DICE's upcoming agenda. A full set-list and roadmap for Battlefield V's eventual updates will include the Operation Underground map available in a variety of different modes, Iwo Jima, and plenty of other content.

The experimentation of competitive game modes has been a staple of DICE in the creation and enhancement of Battlefield V. It's entirely possible the game mode simply did not fit into the narrative of the game, as most updates and patches have been aimed at delivering paralleled content with that of the story and online. It's been a rocky year for the game, and with this cancellation news it will only get worse, but DICE knows exactly what it's doing. By giving itself some leeway to work on bug patching, one of the most critical setbacks in the game, DICE will be able to make the game even more enjoyable, eliciting those previous players who left after launch.

Keep your spirits high and your attention tuned to the broadcasts. As we wait for the 4.6 updates, the more our anticipation grows. There's sure to be some interesting new game modes in the September and holiday season content drops. Simply looking at how much DICE has revamped Battlefront II, it's only a matter of time before Battlefield gets its own makeover. There's already a bevy of game modes and maps to choose from, and while the battle royale mode Firestorm may not be for everyone, it's a challenging step forward in the ways of keeping Battlefield V content fresh and enjoyable. To help you become the last man standing, here are some Firestorm tips to keep you busy.

Although 5v5 looked plenty enjoyable, there's a slew of additional content on the horizon that will make the canceled game mode a mere historical footnote.
