Battlefield V hasn't had the best track record thus far with fans, but with crazy additions like Firestorm and Operation Underground, interest in the game has slowly been renewed. As the month-long Battlefest event nears its end and EA continues to try and keep the game relevant with free weekends, DICE will finish it off with a massive bang. What better way to draw a crowd than by dropping players into one of the most harrowing exhibitions of war in history?
Showcased in an all-new trailer with vivid action sequences and flames that seep through the screen with heat, Chapter 5 looks like one chaotic depiction of World War II's Operation Detachment, otherwise known as the Battle of Iwo Jima. Re-imagining two classic maps from previous installments in the franchise, Battlefield V's newest mission sequences are taking players to both Iwo Jima and Pacific Storm. Iwo Jima and Pacific Storm aren't the only new additions, as a whole new map is being brought to the roster in December, called Wake Island.
In a blog post on EA's website, the new and upcoming chapter in Battlefield is broken down in broad detail. Chapter 5 will introduce all-new weapons, battle pickups, vehicles, and challenges. Two of the more popular featured battle pickups are the flamethrower and katana, both of which are iconic armaments of World War II. The new vehicles look fantastic, sporting the Japanese LVT and Ka-Mi Light Amphibious tanks, as well as the American's Sherman Calliope. Even aircraft, such as Fighter and Bomber variants of the US F4U Corsair and the Japanese Zero Fighter, are dive-bombing into the new update. Jack Culver and Keisuke Nakamura will also be introduced to players as brand-new elites with specific melee weapons and cosmetic variations.
Though the game has faced some serious repercussions after a rocky pre-release period and limited attention following its debut, longtime fans will certainly flock to experience this historical battle between Japan and the US. From the addition of Firestorm to the reintroduction of classic Battlefield maps, the game continues to reassert itself in the industry. Even the recently added 5v5 mode focused on improving quality, so it's clear EA and DICE know exactly where Battlefield V stands with its fanbase and want nothing more than to change those opinions.
With a whole slew of releases in the coming weeks, from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Outer Worlds to Death Stranding and Jedi: Fallen Order, Battlefield's Chapter V has some heavy hitters to contend with, yet DICE and EA remain hopeful for the future.
