After months of silence, Batwoman lead Ruby Rose has given her side of the story regarding her exit from the show. Posting on her Instagram, Rose makes serious allegations against some of the crew and The CW Television Network as a whole, with the actress painting a picture of a dangerous work environment, with no duty of care towards the many workers who sustained injuries during production.

Among the claims, Rose alleges that a crew member suffered third-degree burns, and another was left unable to walk after an injury, with the CW refusing to pay medical expenses and leaving them to crowdfund for hospital care. Rose also says she sustained multiple injuries herself - one almost blinding her - and was made to come back to work soon after she left the hospital, still recovering from a neck injury.

Rose alleges that higher-ups on the production did not take any care when dealing with injuries on set. In the case of the crewmember with third-degree burns, Rose says that after “witnessing his skin fall off his face”, she was made to film a sex scene “without a minute to process”.

The Batwoman star claims that the many accidents on set occurred as a result of production continuing throughout the pandemic, while work on other CW shows had halted. In regards to the woman who was left unable to walk, management blamed her for being on her phone. Rose says the woman was a PA, so being on her phone was part of her job, but also explains that many on set were checking their phones for Covid updates during this time.

Rose specifically names multiple people in her allegations, including writer Caroline Dries.

“We shut down the next day.. not because she [Dries] almost killed someone but the government pulled it [sic]”.

Producer Peter Roth, president of Warner Bros. Television, is also named in the statement. Rose accuses him of inappropriate behaviour towards women on set, as well as neglect after her injury.

In videos shared alongside the statement, Rose shares that she had a neck injury, a rib injury and a tumour.

“To everyone who said I was too stiff on Batwoman, imagine going back to work 10 days after this”, shared Rose, alongside a video from her stay in hospital. She claims that Roth threatened to recast her and fire the whole crew if she did not return to work immediately, and said she was costing the studio “millions”.

Co-star Dougray Scott [Jacob Kane] is later named, having allegedly injured a female stunt double, and was “a nightmare” to work with who “abused women”.

The allegations were made early this morning, and no one named in the statement has responded at the time of publication.
