Nintendo, you brought a lot of great things to E3 2021. A new Breath of the Wild 2 trailer, a new Metroid game, an Advance Wars remake, and more besides. But people were really banking on Bayonetta 3 after almost four years, and judging by the Twittersphere, those people really feel let down.

Some are even expressing the unthinkable: “Bayonetta 3 is never releasing.”

Fans are probably right to be at least a little concerned, especially after Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya hinted at the possibility of Bayonetta 3 news later this year. Now it seems like he might have been trolling us.

In fact, Kamiya went on a bit of a Twitter rant earlier today responding to fans suggesting that Bayonetta 3 might have been secretly canceled.

“I get why people say, ‘Hurry up and release info’ or ‘Show us something,’" Kamiya wrote (as translated by Kotaku's Brian Ashcroft, who does a much better job than Google). “Reckless remarks like ‘Has development stopped?’ or ‘I guess it’s been delayed’, etc. are nothing but annoying public waste.”

Kamiya noted that both Platinum and Nintendo have said that development is progressing whenever they've spoken about Bayonetta 3 while also linking back to a recent article expressing a similar sentiment.

Still, simply announcing a game doesn't guarantee that it will ever be released or that it won't be met with setbacks. Just ask Rare's Everwild about that.

Perhaps Kamiya had the right idea when he suggested "we should all reset and forget about Bayonetta 3. Then when something finally does happen, it will be a nice surprise, won't it?"

In the meantime, there's a brand new Game and Watch system on the way with three classic Zelda titles, Life is Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy all to look forward to later this year. Sure, they're not Bayonetta 3, but honestly, nothing is.
