This past weekend, Microsoft sort of let loose that both Bayonetta and Vanquish would be receiving remasters on current-generation platforms. After a Microsoft Store listing spoiled all of the details, Sega has outright confirmed that both titles are, indeed, returning to the gaming landscape.
Announced this morning, the Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle will be heading to PS4 and Xbox One on February 18, 2020. Gamers can grab each game separately for $24.99/€24.99 or nab the bundle for $39.99/€39.99. A really rad looking steelbook case is being offered with the physical bundle that comes with both titles.
As the title would imply, it's been ten years since the release of Bayonetta in 2009. By the time this bundle comes out, Vanquish will also be 10. As previously reported, both remasters will be getting a boost in resolution to 4K and will run at 60 FPS. You'll need the enhanced consoles to make use of that increased resolution, but it's still a marked improvement over the previous versions available on Xbox 360 and PS3.
Both games had already been somewhat remastered when they were ported to PC in 2017. Those versions included all of the same graphical/framerate enhancements that these new ports will have. Bayonetta may have "flopped" during its original release, but Nintendo came in to save the series in 2014. It would subsequently get a sequel and enhanced re-release on the Wii U that later made its way to Switch. The remastered version will not feature any of the Nintendo specific additions .as should be obvious-.
Bayonetta is an over the top, tongue in cheek story about an Umbra Witch who awakens from a 500-year slumber without a memory of who or what she is. She must then embark on a quest to find the Eyes of the World while battling enemies with an arsenal of weapons that includes her magical hair. Vanquish, meanwhile, stays closer to a more common sci-fi story of a soldier who has to infiltrate a space station to retake it from a Russian enemy. Using a spacesuit with a vast array of weaponry obtained from scanning common firearms, it's really a wild game of explosions and action.
If you have missed out on either of these games - or, God forbid, both of them - then you'll be able to enjoy them in the coming year with these remasters. On PlayStation 4, digital versions of the game also gives you a pair of static console themes.
