Jeanne is an Umbra Witch who is Bayonetta's childhood friend from 500 years before the events of Bayonetta 1. She is first introduced as a villainous rival, following Bayonetta from place to place as she discovers the truth about her past and the Left Eye of Darkness.RELATED: Bayonetta: Details You Probably Never Noticed BeforeAfter confronting her for the last time at Isla Del Sol, it is revealed that Jeanne had been brainwashed by Balder to be hostile towards her Umbran sister. Over the course of both games, Jeanne has shown her potential as an ally and an enemy to Bayonetta, making her an intriguing, well-rounded character.

10 Jeanne Shares A Voice Actor With Daphne From Scooby-Doo

In both Bayonetta games, Jeanne is voiced by legendary voiceover icon Grey Delise-Griffin. For the past 20 years, Griffin has been the voice of Daphne from the Scooby-Doo franchise and has also voiced many other cartoon characters. Her repertoire in animation includes Vicky from The Fairly Odd-Parents, Wubbzy from Wow! Wow! Wubbzy and Princess Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender (a character whose voice she totally leans into for Jeanne's).

In video games, Griffin is known for voicing Catwoman in the Injustice series and Natla in the Tomb Raider series. For Bayonetta 2, Delisle also voiced the newscaster Mollie Anderson, who is heard briefly at the very beginning of the game.

9 Jeanne's Favorite Weapon Is A Sword

Like Bayonetta, Jeanne is skilled in the Bullet Arts and uses her signature guns, All 4 One. However, Jeanne has shown that her favourite weapon might instead be a sword. In her boss fights in the original Bayonetta, Jeanne can also slash at her with Angel Slayer, a katana that is her equivalent of Bayonetta's Shuraba. Angel Slayer is canonically the twin blade to Shuraba and was previously used by another witch who got dragged down to Inferno.

Once Rodin got ahold of the weapon, he sealed an unknown demon's essence inside it to match Shuraba's power. The katana glows green when it is used while playing as Jeanne, and also appears as her weapon of choice in other games Bayonetta characters are in.

8 Jeanne's Birthday

According to character designer Mari Shimazaki, Jeanne's birthday is inscribed on her Umbran Watch. When looking closely at the watch, the number 141216 can be seen. Representing the numerical date of Jeanne's birthday, this would mean the witch was born on January 6th, 1412.

This makes her 609 years old and a few weeks younger than Bayonetta, whose birthday is December 19th, 1411. Jeanne's birthday is shared with Jeanne D'arc (Joan of Arc), the saviour of France who was burned at the stake for heresy. The connections to Joan of Arc run deeper in the lore as well; Jeanne wears an outfit from the fashion line D'Arc in the first Bayonetta game.

7 Jeanne Has A Superhero Alter-Ego

During the day, Jeanne teaches high schoolers. At night, she transforms into the superhero Cutie J! One of Jeanne's outfit choices that is unavailable to Bayonetta is Cutie J, a masked version of Jeanne in her Umbran Uniform. Not much is known about this Cutie J persona, but she allegedly cuts through evil with her crimson blade, Bloody Moon.

She is also described as a defender of her city and students, so it could just be a fun character Jeanne created in her head. The Cutie J costume does not alter any of Jeanne's gameplay when she wears it in either Bayonetta game, though the mask/helmet does make her uniform look more complete. Cutie J reappears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate when Jeanne's spirit evolves at Level 99.

6 Jeanne Can Use Telekinesis

Jeanne and Bayonetta's powers are said to be matched, but Jeanne appears to have some abilities that her rival does not. One of these abilities is telekinesis, the power to make objects float through the air. Jeanne only employs this technique once and does not do it in any battles against her in the first Bayonetta game.

When speaking with Jeanne atop the plane in Chapter 12, a cutscene shows Bayonetta avoiding fire from Jeanne's All 4 One guns. When she does, Jeanne's eyes briefly glow red, and the bullets change their trajectory mid-air to continue pursuing her rival. This technique has no official name, though it is likely that Jeanne can only use this power on her guns.

5 Jeanne's Stuffed Cat

Cereza's stuffed cat, Chesire, plays a minor role in the games as a reference point explaining why the adult Bayonetta calls Luka by the nickname. When playing as Jeanne, she can occasionally be transformed into her child form either by Jubileus in the first game or Resentment in the second. While in this form, it is revealed that she too has a stuffed animal. According to PlatinumGames, this stuffed cat is named Charles.

Unlike Bayonetta's Chesire which appears to be homemade, Jeanne's cat appears to be either purchased or made professionally by a toymaker. Jeanne's love for stuffed animals is also carried into her adult life; her All 4 One guns also have stuffed cats dangling off the end of them.

4 Jeanne's Motorcycle

In the 500 year period while Cereza lay asleep at the bottom of a lake, Jeanne had some time to pick up some professions and hobbies. Right before the first fight against her, Jeanne appears before Bayonetta in a motorcycle that she uses to brutally massacre some angels. She later drives this motorcycle on a rocket into outer space to rescue Bayonetta, and again uses it to freak out poor Enzo in Bayonetta 2.

This motorcycle is apparently also named Angel Slayer, matching the name of the katana she wields. The name is engraved on the bike's fuel tank, something Jeanne likely had customized. Jeanne is probably also responsible for the bike's licence plate U1QTJ, standing for "Umbra #1, Cutie J."

3 Jeanne Is Playable In Other Games

Jeanne in The Wonderful 101 (left) and SMT: Liberation Dx2 (right)

Bayonetta isn't the only character from her games to cross into other media. In The Wonderful 101, Wonder-Jeanne can be unlocked under the same requirements as Wonder-Bayonetta and Wonder-Rodin (getting every in-game achievement). Alternatively, Wonder-Jeanne can be unlocked in the remastered versions of the game with the code ANGELSLAYERS.

Jeanne also appeared alongside Bayonetta and Beloved in the collaboration event with the Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 mobile game. In both this game and The Wonderful 101, Jeanne uses her sword Angel Slayer as her primary weapon. In SMT: Liberation Dx2, her unique skills are Madama Uppercut and Gomorrah (J).

2 Jeanne's Fighting Differences

Jeanne and Bayonetta confrontation in Bayonetta 1

When Jeanne is unlocked in Bayonetta 1 & 2, players might have a learning curve to adjust to the new character. Though many of Jeanne's moves mirror Bayonetta's, she also has some differences which make her fighting style unique. Jeanne cannot activate Witch Time as easily as Bayonetta, requiring players to wait until the very last second to use Moth Within in order to activate it.

However, Jeanne has an advantage over Bayonetta for being able to perform unlimited dodges (Bayonetta can only perform 5 before there is a lag). While in Witch Time, Jeanne receives twice the amount of combo points as Bayonetta, and her Wicked Weaves deal 1.5x the amount of damage to enemies.

1 Jeanne Is A Fan Of Star Fox

Between Bayonetta and its sequel, Jeanne seems to have learned how to fly a jet. She flies one in the prologue of Bayonetta 2, joining her friend in fights against Valiance and Belief. She later jets over to Vigrid to pick up Cereza and Balder to take them to Fimbulventr. Here, she holds her own in the face of armies of flying angels and demons that have started working together. With Cereza and Balder on board, she will occasionally refer to her Umbran sister as "Fox" by accident, before correcting herself.

Like Bayonetta, Jeanne also has a Star Fox costume available to her in the second game, with hers being based on Falco Lombardi's colour scheme. She even wears it in scenes when the player hasn't selected to play as her but is playing as Bayonetta in the costume.
