That being said, not all skills are created equal, and there are certainly those that stand out far above the rest (and those that could classify as glorified resource dumps). Between Cereza and Cheshire, these "special skills" are the ones you'll want to invest in as soon as you have the means and resources to do so to get the most out of your adventure.

Multi-Bind

2

3

  • 1,400 Onyx Roses
  • 3 Moon pearls

After defeating the Jabberwock

All three parts of the Multi-Bind series in Cereza's skill tree are absolutely worth the investment. Although a whopping 2,750 Onyx Roses and six Moon Pearls, this costly skill series is a make-or-break ability in most combat situations.

With Multi-Bind invested in, you'll be able to Thorn Bind several enemies. This important crowd-control skill will prevent you from getting overwhelmed by several enemies and allow Cheshire to pick and choose threats.

Additionally, Multi-Bind stacks with all other skills related to Thorn Bind, including Absorption (which gives you magic for each Thorn Bound enemy) and Venom Thorn (which slows down all trapped enemies).

Its versatility and foundational behavior make this a central part of most builds throughout the game. Should your resources allow, it should always be the first purchase when available.

Infernal Bond

Hug Mode is incredibly valuable in both the puzzle-like overworld and in the combat arena. Of the many skills that can enhance it, the Infernal Bond line is the most beneficial to have in a boss fight and a universally applicable skill.

Increasing the speed at which Cheshire's Magic Gauge recovers, Infernal can affect:

  • The amount of skills Cheshire can use.
  • The time Cheshire can stay out during a battle.
  • The amount of time Cereza has to be alone after Cheshire is defeated.

When progressing further into the game, Infernal Mode also directly affects how well Cheshire will be able to deal with enemies of multiple element types. With a quick way to replenish Cheshire's magic, Infernal Bond can ensure you keep up with the frantic pace of battle even in later chapters.

Yes, Buddy Charge can give an instant magic-replenish by pressing the L button; however, this forces Cereza to stop moving. During boss battles, this can be a fatal mistake.

In addition, Infernal Bond 2 can replenish only a little less magic in similar time without the risk. Therefore, Infernal Bond is a much more reliable (and safer) source of magic recovery.

Absorption

Keeping Cheshire in play as much as possible is always a winning strategy in any combat scenario of Bayonetta Origins. One way to help is to use Absorption.

By using Thorn Bind, you can contribute to increasing Cheshire's Magic Gauge. Consequently, you can gain the same benefits of Infernal Bond while also ensuring that Cheshire stays in an Elemental mode of your choosing.

By increasing Cheshire's magic, you can also ensure that he has enough to perform a Bind Combo to follow up on your Thorn Bind.

This ability stacks with Multi-Bind, giving a larger amount of magic to Cheshire with each trapped enemy.

Bind Combo

Easily one of Cheshire's most essential skills, Bind Combo will allow you to follow up on Cereza's Thorn Bind with a powerful attack that synchronizes with the element (or lack thereof) he's currently attuned to.

Any Mastery in the Bind-Combo line is also a good investment. However, you should prioritize elements that most suit your playstyle.

Wood and Water Mastery is best for players who prioritize speed and fluidity.

Stone and Fire Mastery is best for players who prioritize raw damage and defense.

It's great for dealing large amounts of damage to tanky enemies, but more importantly, it's an essential tool for reaching Cereza across large distances quickly.

Bind Combo sends Cheshire to any recently Thorn-Bound enemy, even if that enemy is on the opposite side of the arena from him. In modes like Stone Mode, this can be an absolutely crucial key to movement and dexterity in a battle.

Shift Strike

Easily one of Cheshire's most valuable skills, Shift Strike is a low-cost, mid-game investment that gives far more than it asks for.

This skill allows Cheshire to switch elements mid-combo, applying to standard attacks and Bind-Combos alike.

Don't like the Elemental Mastery skill for the element Cheshire started a Bind Combo in? Easy - click a button and change his element before the Mastery Strike. Got caught off guard by the sudden use of a shield from an enemy? Click a button and change Cheshire to the right counter-element mid-combo.

Water Cheshire Uses Shift Strike Combo On Affinity Into Iron Maiden

In addition to allowing Cheshire added versatility, it also expands the potential of combo attacks. Special attacks for each element are possible when attacking during the use of Switch Strike, creating the potential of truly unique combo trains.

Chain-Combos with Shift Strike also appear to have increased damage output and unique effects (like the Water Element's effect of suspending opponents in midair with a bubble).

Its uses are many, and it's a staple part of Cheshire's combat potential in any situation. With no need for an Inferno Fruit and the abundance of Avalon Drops by the time this skill becomes available, there is little reason to skip this skill.

Chomp! And Demonic Hunger

Demonic Hunger

  • 500 Avalon Drops
  • 1 Inferno Fruit

After defeating Amadan Dubh

Cheshire's signature finisher is a handy tool in knocking out the remainder of an enemy's health pool without worrying about potential extra damage taken. It skips large areas, like with Bind Combo, making it also a good tool for map mobility.

However, the true shine in this skill series is in Demonic Hunger. In addition to having to being a strong finisher, Demonic Hunger broadens the benefits of this with a moderate-to-large increase of replenished magic for every enemy defeated with Chomp.

Demonic Hunger can replenish any magic spent on using a skill like Bind Combo or Combo Mastery while also defeating an enemy.

There's no drawback to this investment, and it's incredibly valuable to have during chain-combats in Tir Na Nog challenges, mowing down all your hurdles with a satisfying CHOMP!
