There's finally an update on Bendy and the Dark Revival, and it's something fans probably didn't see coming.

Dark Revival is the highly-anticipated followup to 2017's Bendy and the Ink Machine. The foray into Joey Drew Studios was received positively for its unique setting and story. Set in a defunct cartoon studio, Ink Machine followed Henry Stein unraveling the sinister secrets behind Joey Drew Studios. Chased by a demonic incarnation of a cartoon character, the game offered some fun scares. The new game was announced last year.

The last trailer was released in December, showing new protagonist Audrey and presumably a new kind of ink monster. The game was also given a delay into 2020. Since then, updates have been scarce. A mobile spinoff game titled Boris and the Dark Survival was released in February, tiding fans over. But, fans are still wondering how Dark Revival connects to the first game, and who Audrey is. We still don't have answers to those questions, but we do have two very interesting updates on the title.

This week, Joey Drew Studios posted a development update video for Bendy and the Dark Revival. The update reveals the reason why the game is taking quite awhile: it's actually being developed as one full release, doing away with the chapter-by-chapter release format of Ink Machine. Not only that, but game developer theMeatly says Dark Revival is going to be far more frightening than Ink Machine.

Bendy and the Ink Machine was released in five chapters over the course of 20 months. Many fans are happy Dark Revival will arrive as a complete experience instead, which means no waiting to see what happens in the next chapter. Interestingly, the video did not state if the game is still on track for a 2020 release, or needs to be delayed again. The official website lists 2020, so for now, the game is still coming this year unless otherwise stated.

Bendy and the Ink Machine became big enough to expand into merchandise. The game has received collectibles, t-shirts, and books. It will be interesting seeing how Bendy and the Dark Revival expands the franchise.
