In Monster Harvest, you take control of a new family member to town, a town that has thrived due to the harvest of monsters from plants called Planimals. Your character is given a whole farm to restore, similar to most other farming-type games. Monster Harvest starts out quite slowly with you having to gentrify the area in order to bring life to new crops.RELATED: Games To Play If You Like Story Of Seasons: Pioneers Of Olive TownWhat makes Monster Harvest unique from other similar games is that you can grow and raise Planimals to take into battles. These battles are very similar to those in the Pokemon games. The game guides you gently from task to task as you progress through the days. However, starting out in this game can often be overwhelming since you don't always know where to first start. The following tips should help when diving into the game.

7 Open Up The Farmland

Monster Harvest doesn't do the best job at letting you know what you should be doing from the outset. However, similar to many other farming adventures, one of the best things to do is to clear out your farmland. In Monster Harvest you are given a very overgrown farmstead. There are trees, bushes, rocks, and logs all over the place.

Your first main task should be to take your basic set of tools and get to work. You do have a stamina bar that affects how much you do during each day so you won't be able to do much right away. Try to at least clear out a patch of land to start growing some basic crops.

6 Using Slimes On Crops

learning about slimes in monster harvest

One of the most unique aspects of Monster Harvest's gameplay is the ability to use different colored slimes on your crops. By using slimes you gain the ability to grow Planimals which can then be cared for and take into battle in the depths of the dungeons. Slimes are acquired through exploration and by purchasing them from the various town shops.

It's a fine balance when starting out with your crops since you need to grow traditional plants to see at the consignment board to make money but you also need Planimals to dungeon dive. Try to set aside an area for regular crops and another area just for Planimals and slimes.

5 Craft Away The Days

Monster Harvest features a good deal of crafting, something that helps extend longevity for the game while also helping with the customization of your farmstead. Crafting items aren't doled out at a rapid pace though. Most new crafting items come from each new level up - you do gain XP in this game for most tasks you perform.

The best items to craft early on are a chest to store your extra items and tools as well as fences to keep your farm nice and tidy. Games like this can be overwhelming since you are given the freedom to design. The chests and fences can help you keep the clutter organized.

4 Pay Attention To The Calendar

Monster Harvest has a handy calendar that can be found in your menu. This calendar helps you to track each day while also learning about special events. Similar to games like Stardew Valley or Story of Seasons, Monster Harvest features a plethora of town events to keep you invested day-to-day.

Make sure you look at your calendar each morning so you know about the events coming up. Typically a character in the game will inform you of a special event - however, the calendar keeps you up to date. Also, the calendar helps you to know which season you are in.

3 Dungeon Diving

Aside from farming, dungeon diving and creature battling are the next biggest gameplay aspects to Monster Harvest. In order to delve into the dungeons you need to first have a Planimal or two, and secondly, you need to visit at nighttime. For some reason, you can't go into the dungeons during the day. It's not exactly clear why this is the case but make sure you only go at night.

Diving into dungeons is the best way to experiment with your Planimals. During exploration, you can find minerals and ores for crafting, items to sell, and battles to take place in. The Planimal battles are turn-based, again very similar to Pokemon.

2 Utilizing The Job Board

The job board which is located in the center of town is briefly discussed near the start of the game but then can easily go unnoticed. The job board is one of your best ways to gain items and money. Typically you will utilize the job board once you have gathered enough specific materials or components.

The job board is different from the consignment board back at your farmstead. Make sure to know the difference and when to utilize each one. The job board is for tasks that take much longer to complete but reward you greatly. The consignment board is simply for selling your crops, items, and unwanted materials.

1 Explore The Town And Talk To NPCs

exploring town in monster harvest

This may sound simple and generic but is arguably the best tip to provide when starting out in Monster Harvest. Once you get to grips with your home and farm, make sure to take the time to wander around town and speak to as many NPCs as possible. There are a lot of similar-looking buildings in town and the best way to learn about each one is to head inside and investigate.

Also, on random days, NPCs will approach you at your farm to tell you about a new part of the world. However, these villagers often have a lot more to say if you decide to engage with them while exploring the town.
