Style is a major part of any character. The silhouette test is a pretty strong start to if they're immediately identifiable, but they have to be good to look at. There are lots of fashionable folk out there in games, but dresses give a vibe unlike any other.

Dresses are a bit less standard in games, most of the time not actually worn by playable characters. It's hard to fight in a long, flowing gown, after all. That said, plenty of characters rock the look, and many can even kick your ass while doing so.

8 Bayonetta 2 - Bayonetta

Dress A (left) and Dress B (right) in Bayonetta 2

When you think of Bayonetta, the first image that comes to mind probably isn't of her in a dress. Sure, the game gives you plenty of opportunities to dress her up in different outfits and umbral essence, but it's still her main outfits that, unravel themselves during combat that stand out most.

Bayonetta 2 opens with Jeanne and Bayonetta shopping, both dressed to the nines in chic dresses. Bayonetta's wide-brimmed white hat is already a showstopper, but her matching dress is something else. Hanging loose on her shoulders and cut very low along her chest, it's held together with a golden rose with grey fur wrapped around the arms. Fit for an angel.

7 Street Fighter - Chun Li

Street Fighter 6 Chun Li

Street Fighter is already well-known for its iconic characters, Chun Li being among the most prominent ones. Endlessly seeking revenge against M. Bison, she's had plenty of appearances, starring as one of the main characters of the series.

And of course, her attire is as iconic as the character herself. Though it varies between games, it's primarily based on a Chinese Qipao, tightened and shortened to fit her agile fighting style. The shiny blue material of the top stands in stark contrast to her light tights and white boots, with a piece of flowing material between the legs, just for that extra bit of style. An all-around champion fit.

6 The Witcher 3 - Yennefer

The Witcher 3 Yennefer alternative DLC look

The world of The Witcher is an expansive one, the already popular novels by Andrzej Sapkowski catapulted into global fame thanks to CD Projekt Red, and only further still by Netflix. Amongst all of that, Yennefer is one of the most beloved characters - completely independent, yet incredibly reliant on Geralt, just as he is on her.

As such, her appearance in The Witcher 3 was a big deal, since she's such a major part of the story, and her look didn't disappoint. Her outfit is a stunning one, characteristically dressed from head to toe in all black and small trimmings. Though a dress by no means, she initially wears a slight modification of this outfit with an extended gown upon meeting Geralt in Skellige for the first time.

5 The Legend Of Zelda - Zelda

Many Zeldas from across the Legend of Zelda series

For a series bearing her name, it only makes sense for Zelda to be a common mention. Funny enough, she doesn't actually make an appearance in every game, but in every one that she does appear in, she sports new version of her iconic dress - Breath of the Wild being the sole exception.

Her outfits always consist of a mix of pink, white, and gold. The main gown is always a striking white, with a pink embroidered layer flowing over the front, featuring the emblem of Hyrule. For her Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess look, she also has a crown of gold, with shimmering shoulder pads to match. Breath of the Wild, reinventing many of the series' hallmarks, and did the same with Zelda, dropping the dress for a more fitting outdoors outfit.

4 Nier Automata - 2B

Yoko Taro is a force unto himself, pushing game after game of deep philosophy with perhaps more than a pinch of his own fetishes. That leads pretty smoothly to Nier Automata's 2B. She is a great character with amazing voice-acting in both English and Japanese, and her look might want to make you take off your blindfolds.

2B's look is all dichotomy, black and white, serious and frivolous. Her white hair is contrasted with a black hairband and blindfold. Her pale legs wrapped up in black lace leggings. Most notable is her mini dress, frilled at the bottom but cut open for her legs. It's all thin lace around the chest too, with her arms flowing out to a feathery hem by the wrists up to her gloved hands. 2B slays in more than one way on the battlefield.

3 Super Mario - Peach

Via Screen Rant

Being one of the oldest gaming series out there, Super Mario has plenty of beloved characters. They don't always have the most incredible outfits, but rather looks that have become so iconic over the decades that they're unforgettable.

Princess Peach is front and center in that conversation. Just like Mario, Bowser, and everyone else, her look has never really changed much across the series. Pink from top-to-bottom, it's a simple European-style dress. Dark pink hem, a bubblegum pink for the main body, and a big blue gem at the chest, all balanced out with her blond hair and blue eyes. Old but gold.

2 Resident Evil Village - Lady Dimitrescu

Resident Evil is a rocky series, frequently kept afloat by beloved characters like Chris, Leon, and Ada. That said, Village felt like something of a rebirth for the series, taking the best elements from the past to create something new, with perhaps their most incredible antagonist born as a result.

Lady Dimetrscu needs little introduction, having taken the internet by storm with her reveal. Standing at a staggering nine feet and six inches, she towers over all, a blessing for too many people, unfortunately. Of course, her outfit is iconic too. Styled after the lighter dresses of the 1930's, her pale cream dress almost melts into her pale skin, her dark lipstick, and brimmed hat. It's a look to die for.

1 Final Fantasy 7 - Cloud

It was pretty hard to choose a single entry from Final Fantasy for this list. Lunafreya, though limited in appearances, has a look that makes you want more. Yuna has a beautiful melancholy in her wedding dress. Lulu is simply an assortment of belts, Nomura at his worst. Aerith and Tifa are, of course, contenders, but the leading man is the real winner.

The original Final Fantasy 7 had Cloud in a scene that was a tad odd for the time, and was updated to something wonderful in the Remake. Cloud owns his look in those dresses. All nine of them. It would take an entirely new list to actually describe all of his dresses, but just know he looks incredible in all of them. More Final Fantasy protagonists should wear dresses.
