Fishing is an activity that people either tend to enjoy or have absolutely no interest in. But there is enough of an interest in fishing that there are several video games based on it. There's Legendary Fishing for the PS4 that lets you compete against other players. There's Pro Bass Shops: The Strike on the Wii and Xbox 360 that offers a very realistic take on fishing. And there are games out there that, while not focused on fishing, can offering any fishing fanatic a fun time with their fishing mini-games.

10 Pokémon Series

One of the main objectives of the Pokémon series is to catch all the Pokémon you can, and since the very first game, one of the ways you can catch Water Pokémon is through fishing. It makes sense, as many water Pokémon are based on aquatic like creatures. Fishing is optional, but in Pokémon Sword and Shield, "Chain Fishing" will increase your chances of catching a Brilliant Pokémon.

Brillant Pokémon are the Pokémon in the overworld that have yellow auras around them. These Pokémon can either offer Egg Moves or Perfect IVs and will give you money for successfully defeating/capturing them.

9 Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Fire Emblem: Three Houses offers some 'slice of life' gameplay that hasn't really been apart of the series before. While it remains a tactical RPG, players split their time teaching, interacting with students with faculty members to build up their relationship with them and other activities.

One of those activities is fishing, and it helps raise your Professor Level without spending any of your activity points. It's a good way to get ingredients to use for meals for your students and any rare fish you catch you can sell for a good amount of money.

8 Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing is another series that has always given you the ability to fish. And while it isn't the main focus of the game, it's a pretty important part of the series. You have to catch fish for your museum to unlock it, and it's one of the best ways to earn Bells. Fishing in Animal Crossing is simple but does require a bit of patience to reel a fish in.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons the detail of the is on a level unlike any of the games that proceeded it. The fish are to scale, leading to some very surprising (and hilarious) moments when you see what you caught.

7 Final Fantasy XV

Fishing is an optional mini-game that's been apart of several games in the Final Fantasy series. In Final Fantasy XV, it makes for a very lucrative past time, and it happens to be Noctis' special skill. Having Noctis fish gives Ignis ingredients to cook meals for the group, it earns ability points and you can turn around and sell fish to earn some cash.

There are over 100 different types of fish of all sizes, and there are 7 rods and 7 reels you can purchase for Noctis that will affect the speed of how he reels in the fish and his defense against the fish pulling on the line. You can also buy lures and bait at tackle shops.

6 The Legend Of Zelda Series

The Legend of Zelda series also has a habit of including a fishing mini-game in their series. In the case of Link's Awakening, The Ocarina of Time, and Phantom Hourglass, Link can earn rewards for his catches. In Twilight Princess, it's possible for Link to catch things other than fish like a Bag of Rupees and an Empty Bottle. In Majora's Mask fishing is completely optional and catching some fish requires Link wearing specific masks.

In these games you use rods and lures to fish. Breath of the Wild doesn't feature any lures or rods, instead, Link dives into the water after the fish, or you can use the special bombs to a bit of blast fishing.

5 Minecraft

Minecraft gets even more amazing and detailed with each update. The ability to fish in the game came with the Java Edition Alpha v1.2.0 along with the Nether. You have to use a fishing rod to fish, though there are no restrictions on where you can fish at as long as you're near or even in the water.

The actual catching of a fish can take from 5 to 30 seconds, so it isn't the fastest fishing game out there, but you can add enchantments to your fishing rod, like Lure, which decreases the wait time. Other than catching fish, you can catch a variety of items from Treasures (like Bows and Enchanted Books) to Junk, like Leather Boots and Rotten Flesh.

4 Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is an indie simulation game where you inherit an old farm from your grandfather. Aside from a few gameplay mechanics that exist more in the realm of fantasy, it's a semi-realistic take on country living in a small town.

The object of the game is to fix up your new farm, grow crops, and develop relationships with the various villagers in the game. There's also fishing and just like real life, fishing in Stardew Valley is harder than it looks. It requires patience and quite a bit of skill to play this fishing mini-game.

3 Don't Starve Together

Don't Starve Together is the standalone multiplayer of Don't Starve. You and your friends do your best to survive as long as you can in a strange and dangerous land, gathering resources to keep you protected from what calls the land home and, of course, keeping yourself fed. One of the ways to do that is fishing. You can fish in ponds and luckily ponds can be found all over the map.

You have to craft a Fishing Rod to be able to fish, using 2 Twigs and 2 Silk and a Science Machine. Unlike killing other animals (which you have to do to gather meat), fishing doesn't add on to your Naughtiness level and won't lead to summoning Krampus.

2 Shovel Knight

Shovel Knight is another fun indie game where, while fishing isn't the main focus of the game, it's an enjoyable gameplay option. One of the Relics of the game, the Fishing Ros is one of the first relics available. It lets you fish in any of the pits in-game, which are hazards that usually means instadeath if you fall into it.

Along with reeling in actual fish, the Fishing Rod lets you pull up things like treasure, health items, and magic replenishers. It can also pick up junk and be used as a weapon, and can be used to help lift up your partner in Co-op Mode.

1 Persona 5

Fishing as a mini-game started in Persona 4 and continues on in Persona 5. In Persona 5 fishing is unlocked by either being invited to the fishing pond in Ichigaya by Ryuji, or by reading a special book. Fishing requires Bollies, which comes in 3 different sizes and the size Bollie you use determines the size of the fish.

There is a set number of times you can fail before you can't fish anymore during a session, but as you level up your Proficiency Social Stat, that number increases.
