Who doesn't like dinosaurs? They are epic, scary, and fascinating. They are like fantasy creatures, except they actually existed in the past. They are dragons that once walked the earth.
So it's no surprise that there are video games with dinosaurs in them. In some of games, you play as dinosaurs and in others you are trying to survive in a world populated by them. There are even games that take dinosaurs in new and surprising directions, like making them robots.
So here is a list of ten games that revolve around dinosaurs.
10 Jurassic Park: The Game
Obviously there will be a couple Jurassic Park based game on this list, since it's that book that so popularized dinosaur stories. This game was made by Telltale and like most of the games it's episodic, with four episodes in total. Also like their other games, it's a point and click adventure where you make choices for the characters. Your choices then affect how the rest of the game is going to go. It's not the best Telltale has made, but hey, it has dinosaurs. Also the characters can die in a lot of different crazy ways.
9 Jurassic Park (Sega Video Game)
This game is a bit of a time machine, but still deserves a spot on the list. It was very popular in 1994 when it came out. It was a side-scrolling action game. It followed the movie, while still having some tricks up it's sleeve such as getting a choice between playing as Grant or the Velociraptor. While some critics threw it in a pile with the rest of the movie tie-in games, others claimed it to be just as much fun as seeing the movie.
8 Ark: Survival Evolved
Distancing ourselves from the Jurassic Park franchise, Ark: Survival Evolved is a survival game where you are stranded on a mysterious island that is populated by dinosaurs. There is a lot of crafting in the game from building boats to homes to saddles for various kinds of dinosaurs you can tame. You can also breed dinosaurs. You can basically create a dinosaur farm or city if you are feeling ambitious. The end goal is to escape the island, but a lot of players also just like to mess around since it can be played with friends.
7 Dino Crisis
This Capcom game is a action-adventure survival-horror. The first game came out in 1999 and sequels have been made up to 2003. There have been rumors of a revival or remake of the game, but no concrete news. As for the gameplay, it's very similar to the Resident Evil franchise. A lot of fans simply summarized it as "Resident Evil but with dinosaurs." You also got to play as a woman, Regina, back when female characters were not as common to be available to play as.
6 Horizon Zero Dawn
Out of all the games on this list, this one is probably the most gorgeous. We do have to note that instead of dinosaurs, this game basically has a bunch of robot dinosaurs. Sure, they are just ominously known as the "machines" but lets be honest, they are robot dinosaurs.
You play a woman named Aloy and get to explore, fight machines, and play part in an interesting plot that explores the mysterious post-apocalyptic world further. This game was highly rated for it's visuals and fun sense of discovery.
5 Monster Hunter: World
This whole game is about finding dinosaurs, fighting them, and making cool equipment out of their bodies. You do not need to be a paleontologist to realize none of the monsters are actual dinosaurs from the science books, but they are undoubtedly based on dinosaur in their designs and behavior.
You also get an adorable cat assistant to help you with your hunts that you can also make equipment for. What could be better than hunting dinosaurs with a feline friend?
4 Dino D-Day
This game is as ridiculous as it sounds. Steam keep it's description simple: "Frantic, multiplayer action involving Nazis and dinosaurs! What are you waiting for? This is World War II as it should have been!"
So basically Hitler has resurrected dinosaurs and you can play with your friends on either side of the war. Don't worry though, the non-Nazi side also has some dinosaurs up their sleeves, like Trigger, a Protoceratops they rescued from the Axis powers.
3 Lego Jurassic World
If you are familiar with the Lego series of video games, then you should already expect that this is good. They are loyal to the franchises they mix with, but also take creative steps to the fact that everything is made out of legos.
Something that makes this game different from other Lego titles is that it's open world. You get to explore the whole island on your own if you want. Also you can play as dinosaurs, which means you can be a Velociraptor that builds things out of legos. What an image.
2 Primal Carnage: Extinction
This multiplayer game is yet another case of dinosaurs versus man. Much like a certain famous franchise, dinosaurs are resurrected and populate a tropical island. A much of mercenaries are released onto the island to put an end to them. So players get to choose between playing a mercenary or dinosaur and just go ham on attacking each other.
Primal Carnage: Extinction does not really have a story. It is just a humans versus dinosaurs death match. Sometimes that is just all you need for a fun game.
1 Turok: Dinosaur Hunter
This is an old game with a big legacy. It dates back to 1997 and was originally for the Nintendo 64. You play a time-traveling Native American, Turok, whose job is to protect the balance between Earth and the Lost Land. The Lost Land is a dinosaur and alien infested world where time has no meaning.
It's a game a ton of people think deserve a remake, as it was a huge hit in the late 90s. It hasn't been remade (yet), but it has been remastered for the Nintendo Switch.
