Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line instills many Final Fantasy mechanics into the game, including item usage. All the standard items are here, including potions, hi-potions, and phoenix down. Okay, we'll admit there's no ether. But who wants to deal with managing MP anyway?

Still, you may wonder: what items do you really need in a rhythm RPG like Theatrhythm? Can you survive music stages without equipping potions? What ability scrolls offer the best results? And what the heck is Mog's Amulet? We can't speak for every musical adventurer. But, in our opinion, the following items are Theatrhythm essentials.

10 Mog's Amulet

Mog's Amulet, a pink locket with a moogle's face on it, from Theatrhythm Final Bar Line.
  • Item Type: Consumable
  • Effect: Used at the beginning of the Music Stage. Doubles CollectaCards dropped.

Mog's Amulet is an excellent consumable item for collectible hunters. However, there are other ways you can increase your CollectaCard drop rate. For instance, you can improve your party's luck or equip abilities like Rare Collector or CollectaCard Magnet. Still, Mog's Amulet is a reasonably common item requiring less work, making it a great find.

9 Potions

A green and gold vial of Hi-Potion from Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line.
  • Item Type: Consumable
  • Effect:
    • Potion: Used when HP drops below 20%. Restores 30% HP.
    • Hi-Potion: Used when HP drops below 15%. Restores 50% HP.

Potions are a standard item in any RPG. But, in this case, they may be less necessary, depending on your level of finger-dexterity and musicality. After all, your party only takes damage after missing a trigger or falling under a status ailment. Therefore, you can save your potions by being good at Theatrhythm. However, potions will help you perform advanced difficulty songs. They also come in handy for HP preservation missions.

8 Phoenix Down

A feathery tuft of Phoenix Down from Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line.
  • Item Type: Consumable
  • Effect: Used when HP drops to 0. Restores 30% HP.

Phoenix Down is another valuable item that you may not use often. However, these tufts are vital when taking on the most demanding music stages. For instance, if you're dipping your feet into Ultimate or Supreme music stages, you should equip Phoenix Down. Then, when you narrowly avoid a Game Over at the song's end, you'll be thankful you did.

7 Ruin Scroll

The Ruin Scroll, a white book that teaches the Ruin ability, from Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line.
  • Item Type: Ability Scroll
  • Effect: Causes a character to acquire the Ruin ability. (Deals damage in proportion to the user's magic.)

Non-elemental magic is a helpful resource in Theatrhythm. For instance, non-elemental magic avoids enemy resistance, thus causing more damage. Unfortunately, not every character has a handy non-elemental ability. Thankfully, ability scrolls, like the Ruin Scroll, are here to help! We like the Ruin ability because it's a non-elemental ability with unlimited uses. Compared to the Meltdown ability, which has an ability scroll, Ruin is much easier to use.

6 Provoke Scroll

The Provoke Scroll , a tan book that teaches the Provoke ability from Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line.
  • Item Type: Ability Scroll
  • Effect: Causes a character to acquire the Provoke ability. (Lowers enemy defense and raises enemy attack power.)

Advanced players will gain significant advantages from the Provoke Scroll. For instance, casting Provoke can give your party a better opening to impart damage if you're fighting an enemy with resistance across every physical and magical attribute. However, you must battle with your best rhythmic skills to avoid the enhanced attacks Provoke grants your enemy.

5 Rhythmia Plus Scroll

The Rhythmia Plus Scroll, a green book that teaches the Rhythmia Plus ability in Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line.
  • Item Type: Ability Scroll
  • Effect: Causes a character to acquire the Rhythmia Plus ability. (Increases Rhythmia earned after an MS.)

As your Rhythmia points rise, your Rhythmia rewards will occur less often. This increased space between rewards makes vital power-ups and growth eggs harder to receive. Fortunately, the Rhythmia Plus Scroll can teach a party member an ability that increases the Rhythmia earned after a music stage. More rhythmia will lead to more power-ups, leading to increased stats. Therefore, Rhythmia Plus is a fantastic ability to equip while level-grinding.

4 Speed Plus

A teal vial containing the Speed Plus power-up from Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line.
  • Item Type: Power-Up
  • Effect: Increases a character's agility by 30.

Agility is your party's essential skill to advance through Field Music Stages. After all, this stat hastens the rate at which your party travels from one battle to the next. So, if you wish to improve your party's success in an FMS, assist them with some doses of Speed Plus.

3 Mind Plus

A light pink vial containing the Mind Plus power-up from Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line.
  • Item Type: Power-Up
  • Effect: Increases a character's spirit by 30.

Related: Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line - How Do Summons Work?

If agility is the key skill for FMSs, then spirit is necessary for Battle Music Stages. Spirit determines the summon gauge's fill rate and your summoned monster's attack power. Summons do not appear in FMSs. However, in a BMS, a strong attack from a summoned monster can take down swathes of enemies or super-powered bosses. Therefore, Mind Plus, which increases spirit, is a crucial power-up.

2 Guard Plus

A bronzed vial containing the Guard Plus power-up from Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line.
  • Item Type: Power-Up
  • Effect: Increases a character's HP by 200.

Who doesn't love a good HP boost? After all, the more HP your party has, the more endurance they'll have in battle. Increasing your party's HP in Theatrhythm is especially helpful because it will allow you more room to make mistakes on complex songs without getting knocked out. So, naturally, Guard Plus is a healthy power-up item for anyone on your team.

1 Growth Eggs

A Gold Growth Egg from Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line.
  • Item Type: Consumable
  • Effects:
    • Silver Growth Egg: Used at the beginning of the Music Stage. Multiplies EXP gained by two.
    • Gold Growth Egg: Used at the beginning of the Music Stage. Multiplies EXP gained by four.

We love growth eggs. These experience-farming goodies give us instant serotonin boosts every time we use them. Plus, the Gold Growth Egg is incredibly elusive. So, they are a godsend when they come into your possession. However, the best boost you can receive is combining the Silver and Gold Growth Eggs for an eight-times EXP multiplier!
