Marvel is on top of the world as it's seeing its new series on Disney+ dominate social media every week. Year after year, they're turning out fantastic films and shows that keep the world's attention. Their games division, Marvel Games, has seen a high level of quality in their recent licensed games thanks to a new initiative.

Over the last decade, they've had plenty of games that have been anything from stellar to mediocre. As there are more and more new Marvel fans every day, it's tough to know which games are worth playing and which ones should be avoided at all costs.

The level of quality in terms of critical reception via aggregate sites like Metacritic showcases how the benchmark for what makes a good to great superhero game has changed in the last decade.

11 Iron Man VR (73)

In July of 2020, developer Camouflaj released Iron Man VR onto the PlayStation 4, playable via the PlayStation VR headset. The game had players take control of Tony Stark in what is described as a "virtual reality shooter", which saw delays due to the ongoing 2020 pandemic.

In terms of critical reception, the game sits at a score of 73 on Metacritic, with its weaknesses being described as its long loading times and a campaign that felt very repetitive. Critics did feel that the flying mechanics were the best part of the game and made the VR aspect a necessity to the overall experience.

10 Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order (73)

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order was one of the first games in a new initiative started by Marvel Games and their Vice President of Creative, Bill Rosemann. Nintendo published the title, which resulted in the game being exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. It was the third title in the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series, a Marvel gaming franchise that fans pleaded to return.

Though it only reviewed on average as a 73, it managed to hit all of the beats fans of the series wanted and did a good job at adding additional characters via post-release downloadable content.

9 Marvel Puzzle Quest (74)

The first of multiple Marvel-licensed mobile games to crack this list is Marvel Puzzle Quest. People across the globe love Puzzle Quest, and the property makes plenty of money skinning the game to fit certain properties and franchises.

Marvel Puzzle Quest started as a mobile title but eventually made its way onto both PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Though it settled on a score of 74 on Metacritic, some reviewers loved the game.

8 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 (76)

Now, by no means is LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 a bad game, it just happened to release at a time where the licensed Lego video games started to feel a bit stale and formulaic. It also happened to release in 2017, when Marvel fandom was at a fever pitch thanks to the approaching climax of the Infinity Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A score of 76 is pretty solid and should be an example of how all games don't need to be 8s or 9s to feel like they're worthy of playing. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is the perfect game for people who love Marvel and/or Lego.

7 Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (77)

Most recently gamers have the taste of Marvel vs. Capcom: Ultimate on their tongues, which was a departure from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. This game wasn't perfect, but it still managed to land an aggregate review score of 77 on Metacritic.

Fans these days are hoping for Marvel vs. Capcom 4, but with rumors swirling that the two companies didn't work well together, it seems that all hope may be lost. At the very least, there are plenty of games in the crossover fighting franchise that are good to great and worth anyone's time.

6 Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Telltale Series (78)

Many of the games that Telltale made had a good amount of quality to them, including Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Telltale Series. Unfortunately, it was one of the last games the developer released before being shuttered, resulting in dozens of employees losing their jobs.

The game as a package was reviewed rather well despite the chaos surrounding it and landed at a 78 on Metacritic. The Guardians of the Galaxy are beloved by millions thanks to the films and this game provided an additional avenue for fans to spend time with those characters.

5 Marvel Future Fight (79)

Marvel Future Fight is one of Marvel's more successful mobile titles and has been around since 2015. It's equal parts dungeon-crawler and action role-playing and has seen more than 200 playable characters enter the roster.

Despite reviewing at just a 79 on Metacritic, it's managed to retain an audience and see continued additions over a long period. Back in 2018, it was reported that the game had over 70 million players, though it's unclear where it sits almost three years later.

4 Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2 (80)

Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2 is a game most people reading this probably don't know about or remember. The original game was described as a turn-based social network game and was prominently played on Facebook. This sequel was released in 2015, three years after the original, and was a mobile-exclusive release.

It was released in the Philippines almost a full year before it made its worldwide release in 2016. Despite the game getting a score of 80 on Metacritic, it was canceled and shut down by Disney six months after it was released worldwide.

3 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (83)

The second of two Marvel/Lego games to make the list is LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. This game was released way back in 2013 during the prime of Lego-licensed collaboration games that all followed the same similar formula.

This game in particular was received rather well and earned a score of 83. Critics stated the strength of the game was its humor and dialog among characters and that the missions offered a good amount of variety. The open-world gameplay also provided a real sense of exploration for gamers.

2 Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales (85)

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales launched in late 2020 as a PS5 launch title that was also available on the PS4. This game was Miles Morales' first major AAA leading role in a video game, coming off of the beloved animated Spider-Man film titled Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.

This game received an aggregate score of 85, not hitting the highs of its Peter Parker-focused predecessor, but quickly establishing Miles Morales as a character that also works extremely well in the world of video games.

1 Marvel's Spider-Man (87)

Though it wasn't the first game in Marvel Games' new quality-focused initiative, 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man was the strongest evidence as to why this was the right move for the brand. Pairing Spider-Man with developer Insomniac Games was something gamers wished and yearned for and it happened.

Plenty of fans were right on the money that the studio would nail it and that game ended up receiving plenty of critical praise and Metacritic settled down to a score of 87 for the game — another notch in the belt of incredible PlayStation exclusive titles on the PS4.
