Poison is another popular way to cause problems for your adversaries. In fact, it's a very varied method as you can poison people in several different ways. For instance, some slip the poisonous liquid into a person's drink, while others are able to spit toxin substances at their enemies. Regardless of how they do it, the following characters are known for using toxins as one of their main weapons.

8 GlaDOS - Portal Series

GLaDOS Looking At Something Offscreen

This AI from the Portal series is among the best characters in video game history. During the games, she usually serves as your guide through each test chamber in the Aperture Science Facility. That makes her sound like a friendly character, which couldn't be further from the truth. She continually mocks and insults you during the tests.

The verbal jabs are simply hilarious lines of dialog, so they're harmless. What is harmful, though, is the poisonous nerve gas she sometimes tries to use on you. The toxin will kill you if you stay in it too long.

7 Malboro - Final Fantasy Series

Final Fantasy 8 Malboro Fight

Most entries in the Final Fantasy series include new protagonists and secondary characters. So, most of the main players only appear in one game. The same can't be said of certain other creatures, such as Malboro. This multi-eyed, slimy monster has appeared in plenty of the entries in the series.

There are different versions of the beast, but none of them are allies. Therefore, when you meet a Malboro, you usually have to fight it. As such, you have to contend with its various attacks, the most famous being Bad Breath. This move often inflicts multiple ailments on your party, including poison, which means your characters start to lose HP.

6 The Fear - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Throughout the third Metal Gear Solid game, Naked Snake proves himself to be among the world's greatest soldiers. The main way he gains that reputation is by taking out the legendary Cobra Unit one by one. The Fear is a member of the said unit.

Like the rest of the team, he's not quite a normal fellow. The man has strange joints, reptilian eyes, an inhuman tongue, and the climbing ability of a chimpanzee. His use of poison is more scientific than all his other attributes, as he simply fires toxic darts from his crossbow. It isn't just any poison, though, as it comes from the Brazilian wandering spider, whose venom can kill you pretty quickly.

5 Gengar - Pokemon Series

The Pokemon series has included plenty of poison types over the years. The most famous of them all, though, is arguably Gengar. After all, he is one of the most recognizable Pokemon in the world. This is partly because the little monster has been around since gen one.

He is primarily a Ghost-type Pokemon, meaning most of the moves he learns by leveling are Ghost-based. Yet, you can infuse him with several deadly poison attacks through TMs. So, you can basically turn him into a poisonous ghost, which sounds terrifying.

4 Green Knight - Castle Crashers

At the start of your Castle Crashers adventure, you get to select your character. The most famous options are the standard multi-colored knights that feature in many of the game's promotional material.

The difference between them goes beyond their color. They also all have their own set of elemental abilities. You may notice that the green one is surrounded by toxin clouds, as their powers are poison based. This means all their magic attacks poison the enemies they hit and inflict damage over time.

3 Sasha - Infamous

The original Infamous is all about electricity as those are the powers Cole McGrath uses. However, the protagonist isn't the only special being in the game. One of the others is Sasha. This strange woman is able to produce a toxic substance known as Black Tar.

The Tar can be manipulated in several different ways. For instance, when it infects others, it allows Sasha to control their mind. So, she can make the average person do her bidding. Therefore, it's fair to say that it's a very different type of poison than what is usually seen in games.

2 Ezio - Assassin's Creed Series

Like most protagonists in the AC series, Ezio typically uses his hidden blade or sword to take down his foes. Those weapons seem to get the job done pretty well, but they aren't the only ones he uses. As Ezio is one of the best Assassins in gaming history, he's got several other ways to kill people, including poison.

Initially, he makes use of a poison tip blade, which forces people to swing their weapons wildly before succumbing to the toxins and dying. Later, the Assassin gains access to darts and bombs that can poison enemies. They pretty much affect people in the same way, but they can be used from a distance.

1 Scarecrow - Batman Arkham Series

Throughout the Arkham series, Batman faces all sorts of rogues. Scarecrow is one that causes him plenty of problems. This is because, while The Dark Knight can defend against most physical attacks, he struggles against the villain's toxins.

As always with Scarecrow, his poisonous gasses help him get into the mind of his opponents. And he forces them to face their greatest fears through hallucinations. When he infects Batman, you get to play through the creepy daydreams, and they make for some of the most captivating moments in gaming history.
