There are a ton of Pokemon in Generation V. It's actually the most populous generation with 156 new Pokemon, many of which have different forms. As a result, you are spoiled for choice when it comes to building a team to take on the gyms, Elite Four, and Champion, as well as in the competitive scene.

If you're looking for something with great stats, look no further. Sure, a Pokemon's abilities, movepool, typing, and much more come into play, but sometimes victory is simply achieved through insanely high stats. Here are the Pokemon in Generation V with the highest base stat totals.

10 Darmanitan (Zen Mode) And Haxorus

zen mode darmanitan and haxorus

In this spot, there is a tie between two very popular Pokemon. Haxorus, which is commonly assumed to be a pseudo-Legendary (but isn't), and the Zen Mode Form of Darmanitan, which it can switch to if it has its hidden ability. Both have a base stat total of 540.

Haxorus has a serious focus on attack and speed, with its base stats being 147 and 97, respectively. Darmanitan has a heavy focus on attack too, in its standard form, at 140. However, its base stat total is much lower than its Zen Mode, where it drops its base attack to a meager 30 and instead has 140 in special attack and 105 in HP, defense, and special defense.

9 Volcarona

Volcarona is an extremely interesting Pokemon. It evolves from Larvesta at the highest level for an unevolved Pokemon to evolve (level 59) and it retained its unique type combo until the introduction of Sizzlipede and Centiskorch in Generation VIII.

Volcarona is also a very powerful Pokemon, with a base stat total of 550. These stats are not distributed where you'd expect them to be for a fiery bug, either. It has 135 in special attack and 105 in special defense, and a surprising 100 base speed. Who knew this moth would be so fast?

8 Archeops

Archeops Pokemon

Archeops, the Fossil Pokemon that evolves from Archen, is a prime example of a powerful monster being hindered by a terrible ability, similar to Slaking or Regigigas. This Rock/Flying-type has an impressive base stat total of 567, making it the strongest Fossil Pokemon in terms of stats alone.

With 140 in attack, 112 in special attack, and 110 in speed, Archeops is a fast, powerful attacker that's definitely worthy of the best teams. However, it's held back by its infamous signature ability, Defeatist, which halves its attack and special attack when its health drops below 50%.

7 Tornadus And Thundurus

Tornadus and Thundurus

Unova is home to a ton of Legendaries and Mythicals, and unsurprisingly, the region's strongest Pokemon are mostly them. First up are Tornadus and Thundurus, two members of the Forces of Nature trio, with a base stat total of 580 each.

In their Incarnate Form, both of them have their stats in the exact same distribution, with a heavy focus on attack, special attack, and speed. However, they differ in their Therian Forms. Tornadus is balanced more toward speed (121), while Thundurus focuses on special attack (145).

6 Swords of Justice

Another Legendary trio, the Swords of Justice consist of Terrakion, Virizion, and Cobalion. They'll go on to add a fourth member, Keldeo, who is a Mythical Pokemon. All four of these Pokemon have the same base stat total of 580.

They are distributed very differently, though. Each has 129 points in its highest stat. For Cobalion, that's defense. For Terrakion, it's attack. For Virizion, it's in special defense. And, for Keldeo, it's in special attack. They all also have speed as their second-highest stat, at 108.

5 Landorus

The third member of the Forces of Nature is the trio master, Landorus. It has a slightly higher base stat total than the other two, though, sitting at 600.

In its Incarnate Form, Landorus has the same stat distribution as Thundurus and Tornadus in their Incarnate Forms as well. In its Therian Form, Landorus' attack gets bumped up to 145 at the cost of ten points each from special attack and speed.

4 Mythicals

victini meloetta genesect

Most Mythical Pokemon across the series, with few exceptions, have 600 as their base stat total. Victini, Meloetta, and Genesect are no exception to this. Victini is the least interesting, with the same 100-in-every-stat spread as many Mythicals before it. Genesect and Meloetta's two forms, however, are more interesting.

Genesect has fairly unimpressive HP (71) but very respectable physical and special attack (120 each), as well as 99 in speed.

Meloetta's Aria Form is heavily focused on special stats, with 128 in both special attack and special defense, while its attack and defense are both a pitiable 77 and its speed is only 90 points. Pirouette Form flips this, though, with 77 in the special stats and 128 in the physical attack and speed, as well as 90 in defense.

3 Kyurem

Kyurem is said to be what's leftover from the "original dragon." Basically, the original dragon was a mega-powerful monster that was split into Zekrom and Reshiram, with Kyurem as the leftover husk. As such, it can fuse with either of the other two, though not both as far as is known.

In this non-fused form, Kyurem has a very nice base stat total of 660. Its highest stats are physical and special attack (both 130) and HP (125). It also has decent numbers in defense and special defense (each 90) and speed (95).

2 Reshiram And Zekrom

Most game mascot Legendaries have a base stat total of 680, including Reshiram and Zekrom. Reshiram is better in the special realm, with 150 in special attack and 120 in special defense, though its physical stats are great too, with 120 in attack and 100 in defense.

Zekrom reverses this entirely. It has 150 and 120 in attack and defense, respectively, and 120 and 100 in special attack and special defense, again, respectively.

1 Black Kyurem And White Kyurem

Since Kyurem is the leftover husks of a monster that was separated into two others, it stands to reason that when it re-fuses with them, it becomes much stronger. So, unsurprisingly, Black Kyurem (Kyurem fused with Zekrom) and White Kyurem (Kyurem fused with Reshiram) top the list for the highest base stat totals in Gen V.

Both of these fusions have a base stat total of a whopping 700. They keep the same emphasis on special or physical, with White Kyurem's 170 in special attack and Black Kyurem's 170 in physical attack. Both also have 125 in HP, though their speed is only 95. Slow, powerful attacks are the forté of Kyurem, regardless of which fusion you have.
