Completing a video game is definitely one of the most satisfying endeavors for any gamer. The idea of investing numerous hours into a product that you are immersed in and seeing it through all the way to the end is a bittersweet feeling that goes to show the sheer impact that games can have in someone's life. From action-adventure extravaganzas to light-hearted platforming — the number of games that provide a satisfying conclusion is quite immense.

More often than not, games with premature endings tend to feature a post-credits scene that elaborates on a ton of unexplained aspects in the game that the regular ending did not address - or they could tease a potential sequel, keeping you excited for the future of the series. Keeping this in mind, here are ten of the best post-credits scenes in video gaming history.

Of course, there will be potential spoilers ahead for each entry, so bear that in mind.

10 Undertale

The indie gem that won over gamers' hearts all over the world, Undertale is a game that any fan of unique video game experiences should definitely try out. The various paths that players can take in their journey can be quite varying indeed, with the Genocide route being particularly noteworthy.

In fact, if players end up completing a Pacifist or normal playthrough after completing a Genocide playthrough, then Chara will make an appearance in the post-credits as well. It's a chilling inclusion that goes to show that Toby Fox really did think of everything while developing this title.

9 BioShock Infinite

The Elizabeths of infinite universes unite to drown Booker DeWitt.

Given the mind-bending plot twist of BioShock Infinite, it was clear that a simple ending wouldn't suffice for this title. It didn't help that the game's ending itself was somewhat saddening, especially when it came to the fate of Booker DeWitt.

However, players patient enough to sit through the credits of BioShock Infinite will be rewarded with an excellent post-credits scene that allows for the protagonist to have a happy ending of his own. It's a great way to cap off a legendary story.

8 Prey

Prey's ending

Prey is easily one of Arkane's most underrated titles around. The act of roaming the empty halls of Talos I and taking care of the threats that lie within as Morgan Yu is quite exciting indeed. However, the post-credits scene completely shatters the idea of this adventure even happening, in the first place.

Instead, it's revealed to the player that they were actually a sentient Typhoon who was being fed a simulation through Alex Yu's technology, making them believe that they were Morgan Yu themselves. It's a great twist that establishes the future of Prey as a series - provided Arkane gets the opportunity to revisit this series, that is.

7 Portal 2

Portal 2 is one of the most charming titles around, so it's no surprise that the post-credits scene is also quite memorable in its own right. Taking the experience miles beyond the original game, it of course had to top things off with a little extra.

After foiling Wheatley's plans and abolishing him to space, the robot is seen mulling with a defective personality-type robot about this failed plan. It's the perfect way to cap off a lighthearted and enjoyable adventure and acts as a wind-down from the overall game you just played.

6 Final Fantasy 8

Squall smiling in the ending of Final Fantasy VIII

Final Fantasy 8 is a game that might've split fans right down the middle. However, the people who enjoyed this title considered Squall to be one of the title's strongest points.

So, when his fate was left unclear during the credits of Final Fantasy 8, most fans were understandably left dejected - but not for long. The post-credits scene made it infinitely clear that Squall was alive for good, and the kiss he shared with Rinoa was the perfect icing on the amazing cake that was Final Fantasy 8.

5 Final Fantasy 7

Red XIII Final Fantasy VII Disc Swap Screen

Another excellent title in the Final Fantasy series with a brilliant story of its own was Final Fantasy 7. After summoning Holy to counter the effects of Meteor, the fate of the Planet is left pretty vague.

However, a post-credits scene five hundred years in the future shows Red 13 and his cubs overlooking the city of Midgar, which is now covered in foliage. It's a great way to show that the Planet has recovered and is now taking back what it lost - although the expansion of Final Fantasy 7's lore has somewhat besmirched this perfectly serviceable ending.

4 Metroid

Samus Aran's big reveal in Metroid

The original Metroid title is easily one of the most popular games of all time. It also features one of the most iconic post-credits scenes of all time.

Not only did Metroid spark the creation of a new genre in gaming, but it also helped propagate the notion of female characters becoming the norm in video games. The shot of the Samus taking off her helmet and revealing herself to be a girl is an image that gamers remembered long after finishing this classic.

3 Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the most impressive newer titles around, thanks in no small part due to an incredible story that had a truly gargantuan scope. So, it was only a given that such a narratively rich title would feature an eye-opening post-credits scene as well.

The post-credits scene shows Sylens taking over HADES and presumably using him for his own nefarious purposes. We can only wait to see how Aloy will deal with this development over the course of Horizon Forbidden West.

2 Marvel's Spider-Man

The massive success of Marvel's Spider-Man is a testament to the brilliant work of Insomniac Studios. Not only is the game incredibly fun to play through, but it also features a narrative that will satiate any gamer, comic book fan, or anything else along the same lines.

The game features a mid-credits and post-credits scene. The former shows both Miles and Peter showing their new powers to each other, while the latter shows Harry being treated by synthesizing the power of a symbiote to lengthen his life. Suffice to say, the sequel to this title will feature both the Green Goblin and Venom as threats.

1 Batman: Arkham Asylum

Batman: Arkham Asylum Batman looking over Arkham Asylum

Arkham Asylum is a title that finally showed the potential of superhero games. It genuinely made people feel like Batman as they took on a wealth of classic supervillains.

The ending of this game showed that things were far from over, with either Bane, the Scarecrow, or Killer Croc showing their hand as they grabbed onto a crate of the Titan Formula. While later games have made Scarecrow the canon villain, the ambiguity attached to this post-credits scene made for a great topic of discussion for gamers at the time.
