The console itself was solid upon release, but what turned the Xbox One into a big hit was the introduction of Xbox Game Pass in 2017, which gave people the ability to play a huge catalog of games at a subscription price. But even with the service, sales for Xbox One games were still solid and the top 10 best-sold games have a lot to be proud of.

10 Halo 5: Guardians

If there is one series that is considered the face of Xbox, it's Halo. Unsurprisingly, the longtime first-person shooting franchise is featured on the best-selling games on the Xbox One with Halo 5: Guardians. It sold around 5 million units since its release in 2015. The game focuses on two military units, with Master Chief and Spartan Locke each in charge of one. After getting a cryptic message, Master Chief goes off to find artificial intelligence Cortana. Because his whereabouts are unknown, Spartan Locke and his unit Fireteam Osiris are tasked with hunting him down.

9 Fallout 4

Surprisingly, Bethesda has only one appearance on the top ten list of best-selling games and it isn't The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Instead, Fallout 4 holds the ninth spot with an estimated 5.03 million units sold in five years' time. This iteration of the open-world action RPG series takes place mainly in the city of Boston. The main story takes place in 2287, centuries after the nuclear apocalypse. The player emerges from Vault 111 on the lookout for their son after they briefly witnessed the murder of their spouse and the son's kidnapping.

The 2016 first-person shooter is set in World War I and uses many of the historically accurate weapons that were used to fight it. There are plenty of different multiplayer modes and different classes to choose from. The game sold more than 5.13 million copies in the four years it's been out on the Xbox One.

7 Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare

In terms of first-person shooters, no franchise has been more popular since its initial release quite like Call of Duty. While the series is not exclusive to the console, Xbox fans seem to adore the franchise. In the top ten best-selling list for the Xbox One, there is three Call of Duty games. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare ranks seventh with 5.22 million units sold. Developed by Sledgehammer Games, the installment takes place in the future, leaning heavily into technology that hasn't been invented yet to fight in battles with.

6 Minecraft

It's fitting that the game that has outsold every game ever made is on this list. Minecraft is ranked sixth on the Xbox One best-selling list and has sold 5.43 million units. This is only a small fraction of the over 200 million copies sold by the game over its lifespan. The sandbox survival game spawns players in a randomly-generated world where they can explore and build anywhere they please. The game has grown to feature many mobs, weapons, biomes, and resources for players to use on their own personal journey in the blocky world.

5 Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar Games has two iterations of their games in the top five. The fifth-best selling game from the Xbox One era was Red Dead Redemption 2, selling around 5.77 million copies. Based in Western times, the prequel to the highly successful Xbox 360 game stars Arthur Morgan, an outlaw who is part of the Van der Linde gang and must deal with a range of enemies from government officials to rival gangs. Along with the in-depth single-player campaign is the super popular multiplayer mode that allows players to explore and fight like cowboys in the open-world environment.

Developed once again by Sledgehammer Games, WWII featured a single-player campaign focused on the 1st Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, a hugely popular multiplayer mode that uses separate maps from the campaign, and a cooperative game mode that implemented zombies.

The third Call of Duty game on this list, Call of Duty: Black Ops III sold 7.37 million units on the Xbox One, coming in third for the system's overall bestseller list. The successor to 2012 hit Black Ops II, the game takes place about 40 years later in 2065. The game follows a group of black ops soldiers who are dealing with a dying world while dealing with innovations of the new age. The game features a campaign that can be played both alone or with up to 4 players. There is also a standalone Zombie campaign mode that is told through an episodic format.

2 PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

Battle Royale games are widely popular nowadays, and this is partly due to the success of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG, for short). Developed and published by the PUBG Corporation, up to 100 players can parachute into a map to collect whatever weapons they have and start taking people out. True to the genre, players must stay alive if they want to win as everyone only has one life. Over time, the game map shrinks until either one player or one team is left standing. It is the second-highest selling game on the Xbox One with 8 million copies sold.

1 Grand Theft Auto V

Weirdly enough, Grand Theft Auto V originated on the console prior to the Xbox One and still sold more copies than any other game on the system. The remastered version of the hit Rockstar game came out a year after the Xbox One hit the shelves and sold 8.72 million units since then. The game featured upgraded graphics as well as a first-person mode. GTA V is unique in that it was the first game in the series where players could play as three protagonists. While the single-player campaign was a big deal, Grand Theft Auto Online has become the main reason the game remained a thriving entity.
