One of the best ways to fend off the enemies threatening the world's safety is through spells, one of the most effective weapons in your arsenal. With four elements to choose from and no shortage of choices, knowing what spells are worth your time makes the game more enjoyable, saving resources for spells that matter.

8 Flame Vortex

You'll often find yourself coming up against groups of aggressive enemies, creating the need for an attack that can handle multiple targets. When you first use Flame Vortex its size and area coverage will shock you, able to hit crowds enemies at once with a blazing inferno.

On top of its big effective area-wide range, the spell also causes lasting burn damage long after the attack subsides. The only way to get your hands on this spell is by buying three Fire Spheres and a Wind Sphere, unleashing a hellish tornado on all who stand in your way.

7 Crimson Meteor

hurling a meteor at the enemy

Many player's recommendations for the first spell you should focus on, Crimson Meteor is one of the most powerful spells in the game. Rising into the air and bringing down a giant meteor to crush your enemies, early game opponents won't stand a chance. The spell hits four extra times after impact, chipping away large chunks of health.

No surprise, this is the most expensive spell in the Fire element, requiring four separate items as payment. The Flame Vortex spell, a coin purse, two sunstones, and seven Wind spheres will all add up to one powerful spell that stands out among the rest.

6 Firewall

Stepping away from the heavy aggression that most of the Fire spells have, Firewall can be used as a double-edged sword, acting offensively and defensively. Raising a wall of fire can prevent the enemy from advancing and give you a positional advantage mid-battle, damaging anyone unlucky enough to be stood in the way when it's cast.

One of the rare spells that can be useful even if it doesn't cause any damage, giving you time to heal up or rethink an attack. Only costing two Fire spheres, it's the cheapest spell in the element while providing the most versatility in action.

5 Frost Nova

Frost Nova singles out the front line and opens them up for deadly attacks, both freezing them and dragging them forward in your weapons reach. Getting a chance to unleash sword skills without having to worry about defense opens up the possibilities, charging up powerful attacks has never been so risk-free.

One of the easier Water spells to get your hands on, it only takes three Water spheres and a Wind sphere to get things rolling. Perfect if you're having trouble finding a way through the defense, Frost Nova acts like a battering ram.

4 Frost Vortex

This spell has the most advantage when enemies are spread out or surrounding you, forcing them all into a condensed space. Not only does this deliver multiple hits of powerful damage, but Frost Vortex will also freeze enemies on top of each other. Bunched-up enemies offer up multiple targets for one strike, letting you get off a clean combination on a large group all at once.

You'll have to offer up a Frost Wave spell, a Turtle Shell, and four Water Spheres, not the cheapest item on the list. It does separate itself from the pack by stacking the damage into a combination, setting you up for the follow-up strike, and leaving enemy defenses wide open.

3 Tornado

Tornado spells surrounding player

While some like to bring their opponents up close and personal, others need space to do their best work. Tornado gives you the power to push enemies back in four different directions, dealing heavy damage along the way. One of the wind elements strongest attacks with the most uses, it's a key spell for anyone who values their personal space in battle.

Costing only three wind spheres and five ambers, access won't take long, and equipping a great defensive spell early will save you a lot of headaches. Heavy damage and a vulnerable defense often go hand in hand, giving Tornado its high ranking.

2 Seismic Impact

Launching yourself into the line of fire isn't a smart tactic unless you're doing it for a good reason, Seismic Impact gives you an excuse to fight with reckless abandon. Delivering a 360-degree attack that leaves enemies stunned and defenseless, picking a target has never been easier.

A Comet Strike spell, five Earth spheres, and five Ambers, this spell should be a priority for the Earth element. Not only is Seismic Impact hard to defend, but it's also an option in any battle scenario, presenting very few times where it isn't a good choice.

1 Earth Shield

A breather is a good thing to have in your back pocket, protecting you when you're at your weakest. Earth Shield throws up a wide forcefield that damages any enemy that makes the mistake of walking into it, giving you time when it's needed the most.

Two Earth spheres and ten Clays are all it will take, giving you the only spell that physically protects you from incoming attacks without diverting them. Throwing out attacks is all well and good, but you need something that can slow things down in the chaos.
