A lot of people would probably be able to list a handful of things that they’d want to bring with them if they knew they’d end up stuck on an island, but few think about the people that they’d want to bring with them. After all, it’s not often you get to choose the people that you end up trapped with.

If you were able to pick who you’d be stranded on an island with, you might pick your favorite characters, or even the characters you think are most attractive (I’m not here to judge). I like to think of practicality, those people that will help me escape my predicament with their unique sets of skills.

10 Chris Redfield - Resident Evil

Chris Redfield punches a boulder in Resident Evil 5

Have a big boulder blocking your path? Send for the man, Chris Redfield. Not only will Chris be able to manhandle an entire boulder by himself, but he’ll probably be able to locate plenty of conveniently placed health herbs.

His expertise may be in combat with the undead, but he also has plenty of special forces and military training that would make him a huge asset. With his luck, some form of rescue or evacuation would likely be by in no time at all, making him someone everyone should want around.

Breath of the Wild Moblins Attacking Link

A few years ago, the argument could have been made that Link might not be all that useful to have around on an island. Since Breath Of The Wild, that argument is basically done since Link is a master of the wild.

You or I may not be expert survivalists, but Link is able to turn pretty much anything he finds into a useful item. Changing common vegetation into tasty meals and even using bugs to make handy potions are definitely assets that anyone would want in a companion.

8 Lara Croft - Tomb Raider

Lara Croft Prepares To Fire

If anyone was trapped on an island with Lara Croft, they wouldn’t have to do any work. Lara would probably have an entire camp set-up, food on a campfire, and an arsenal of her own weapons before you could even gather a bundle of sticks.

Her survival skills are second to none, so thriving while trapped on an island would be easy with Lara’s help. Regardless of how dangerous the island is, she’d probably end up finding someone to contact the outside world for help as well, so I’d just sit back and let Ms. Croft take the reins.

7 Edward Kenway - Assassin’s Creed Black Flag

Not only would Edward Kenway be a great helping hand while trapped on an island, but he’d also probably be a blast to talk to. Hearing the tales of a bona fide pirate assassin would probably make the long hours under the sun pass in no time.

Learning a couple of shanty tunes to work along to would also be great. There’d be nothing to fear with someone capable like Kenway around, so even if there was any trouble, it would be handled with ease. The pirate’s life is absolutely for me.

6 Arthur Morgan - Red Dead Redemption 2

There’s nothing wrong with a little old-west dad energy when you’re trapped on an island. Arthur Morgan could provide that and plenty more. He’s a proficient hunter, so there’d be plenty to learn, and anyone who’s played Red Dead Redemption 2 knows he can be quite the party animal.

Whether it’s getting some serious work done or drinking the night away, every step of the way would be an adventure. I’d just have to stay on his good side, and that’d keep me from ending up hogtied and tossed into the ocean.

5 Kratos - God Of War

God Of War 3 Kratos fighting Zeus.

Hear me out here. Kratos may be a little intense, but he has softened up a bit over the years. Even if he was at his peak anger, that’s probably something that would either make me so afraid that I’d get work done or simply motivate me to work harder.

I’d like to think that being trapped with Kratos would result in a kind of father-son bonding experience, even though it would probably be more of an all-powerful rage-machine, foolish-mortal bonding experience. Plus, have you seen his beard?

4 Nathan Drake - Uncharted

Uncharted 4 - Nathan Drake looking passed the camera

Nathan Drake would be a great person to be stuck on an island with, for all of the obvious reasons. Willing to scale dangerous heights, make jumps no one should ever attempt, and survive things that would kill the average man, Drake is a God amongst men.

Knowing that there is likely a crew already searching for his whereabouts would be reassuring when thinking about rescue. I’d just avoid getting into any kind of vehicle with him. No boats, no trains, no planes, and certainly no cars.

3 Geralt - The Witcher

Geralt of Rivia from Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt in a DarkForest

Do I have a hidden and deep-seated fear that one day some kind of mythical creature will come out of nowhere and attempt to take me out? I’m not at liberty to discuss that, but I will say that Geralt would work wonders in ensuring that never happened.

He might be a bit grumpy at first, but the more you get to know him, the softer he can seem. Would I poke fun at the unicorn thing? No, because I value my life, but I could see myself as the Dandelion to Geralt in an island situation.

2 Elizabeth - Bioshock Infinite

Bioshock Infinite Elizabeth

First, it should be said that Elizabeth would simply be amazing company to have around. Her vast array of knowledge and skills would make conversation easy and hobbies abundant. And while her ability to open tears might be a bit weird, it could be useful.

The possibilities for what she could do with her tears are seemingly endless. That may not always be a good thing, but it would keep life interesting. I would just hope I’m not some strange multiverse version of Booker Dewitt.

1 Steve - Minecraft

You’d have to be the luckiest person in the world to wind up stuck on an island with Minecraft's own Steve. His mastery of the manipulation of the very world around him makes him god-like, especially when trapped on an island.

Within an hour, I wouldn’t even be on an island anymore. The entire island probably would have been morphed into some kind of dirt and sand fortress. I think it stops being considered stuck when you don’t want to leave a sudden life of endless luxury.
