Of all the games available on Game Pass, ten stand out above the rest, including indie titles, platformers, shooters, racers and RPGS, there's a little something for everyone. All of these listed titles have metascores over 90, and if that's not incentive enough to buy Game Pass, then what is?

10 Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition - Metascore: 90

Metroidvanias are alive and well in 2020, with Hollow Knight being a strong contender for the best ever, and for gamers who like a challenge, this title is perfect for you. Hollow Knight doesn't hold your hand, requiring players to play incredibly strategically to deal with enemies, platform with incredible precision and keep a strong mental file of all the areas you'll need to backtrack for at later points.

Bosses pose an immediate danger that rivals that of Dark Souls or Sekiro, so don't let the innocent aesthetics of the game's characters and settings confuse you. Fans of the metroidvania genre will absolutely adore this game, and gamers looking to get into the genre would make the right choice in starting with Hollow Knight.

9 Ori And The Will Of The Wisps - Metascore: 90

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is certainly in the conversation for the best metroidvania of all time as well. Visually, this game is absolutely beautiful, almost stunning enough to distract you from how incredibly difficult this game can be.

The game managed to live up to the incredibly high bar set by Ori and the Blind Forest, so fans of the first installment need not worry about being disappointed; you won't be. The game is much more polished and smoother than Blind Forest, bring back and perfecting many of the older abilities and aspects of the game, while also creating a unique experience through a newer, more sorrowful story.

8 Gears Of War 3 - Metascore: 91

The third installment in the Gears of War franchise, while it was a bit lacking in mechanical innovation from the previous installment, the game was still widely praised as being a phenomenal contribution to the series. Gears of War 3 introduced four-player cooperative campaign play, which for a story so focused on squad combat, was a must-have feature.

On the competitive side of thing, few third-person shooters can hold a candle to Gears of War 3's multiplayer, which was a massive step-up from the game's predecessors, featuring better-performing matchmaking and a wider variety of elements and gamemodes to keep things interesting.

7 Dead Cells - Metascore: 91

Dead Cells is described by the developers at Motion Twin as a "roguevania", a fairly daunting concept of a genre, combining the permadeath and tile-based graphical elements of roguelikes with the explorative and backtracking elements of metroidvanias. Players play as a mass of cells that occupy the corpse of a prisoner, fighting their way through procedurally-generated maps, gathering randomly-spawned weapons and items to further progress through the story, creating a unique experience every playthrough.

With enemies of varying combat styles, players must learn the style of every one they encounter, as no one move can carry you through every level. The challenging nature of the combat, paired with the beautiful aesthetics and sound design make for a textbook "roguevania" experience.

6 Mass Effect - Metascore: 91

Commander Shephard's story began in 2007 with Mass Effect, a futuristic third-person shooter with RPG elements and numerous customizations available for your character. The openness in the game's plot development allows players to act with the alignment of their choice, either vehemently or with good intentions, whichever appeals more to your vision of the story.

While the side quests can get a bit repetitive, the main quest is one of the more exciting and mysterious of the previous generation, with plenty of replay value due to the various mortality paths you can opt for. 2007 seems like a long time ago, but it's never too late to experience Mass Effect for the first time.

5 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Metascore: 91

If you were to ask someone to rattle off their top three RPGs of all time, you'd be lucky to find a single gamer who doesn't mention The Witcher 3. Winner of the Game of the Year award at the Game Awards 2015, The Witcher 3 delivers on all elements: a visually stunning range of environments, an enticing story, incredible performance-work and an amazing score. Most importantly, it's really fun.

If you've got a hundred hours to kill, you'll need to free up your schedule a bit more if you want to experience everything this behemoth of a game has to offer. The seemingly endless list of available quests may seem intimidating at first, but once you get started, you'll find it harder to stop than to press on.

4 Forza Horizon 4 - Metascore: 92

Certainly the most visually impressive game on this list, Forza Horizon 4 has raised the racing genre's bar to a height that is simply unfair to the rest of the industry. Players have access to vast array of vehicles with a totally customizable single-player career that lets you enjoy the game however you like.

Forza Horizon 4 offers an incredibly extensive list of available events, showcases and races, with new challenges every day and week, and new online events being hosted every hour. The weekly change of the in-game season keeps the aesthetics fresh and interesting, so even when you go back to better old race times, you're still getting a new experience.

3 What Remains Of Edith Finch - Metascore: 92

What Remains of Edith Finch Swingset

The highest-rated indie game on this list, What Remains of Edith Finch tells the incredibly tragic, yet remarkably creative story of the Finch family. Players control the last surviving Finch, Edith, as she narrates the stories of her family's lives through the expedition of her home.

This game displays better than any other that a game doesn't have to occupy dozens or hundreds of hours of your life to be memorable or awesome. Clocking in at around two hours in length, What Remains of Edith Finch is straight and to the point, presenting a sort of movie experience, and doesn't fail to leave a lasting impression on players. This is a must-play indie game for everyone.

2 Gears Of War 2 - Metascore: 93

The game which introduced what has now become a staple of the Gears of War franchise, Horde Mode, Gears of War 2 creates a familiar experience for fans of the series' first installment, while simultaneously delivering many new elements to the series. Similar to Gears of War 3, this title wasn't particularly innovative, but with how incredibly fun the first game was, it didn't have to be.

Many would disagree about this not being the peak of the franchise. This sequel introduced many new cooperative gamemodes for friends, as well as an incredibly fast-paced, booming campaign that leaves you with little time to catch your breath. The multiplayer, which introduced respawning, more players per match for more intense duels, numerous memorable maps and gamemodes makes for an unforgettable night of gaming even 12 years past its release.

1 Gears Of War - Metascore: 94

Gears of War's franchise-opener was a marvel, one of the most innovative titles in the history of shooters, bringing many staple elements to the genre of third-person shooters, such as taking cover and tactical reloads. Gears of War was the first great cooperative third-person shooter and laid the groundwork for one of Microsoft's most successful IPs.

While the game's multiplayer isn't quite as refined as later titles, and it's lacking in horde mode, and the campaign is maybe less of a punch-in-the-face experience than its sequel, the game was one of the most innovative and important in the entirety of the Xbox 360 generation, and the metascore reflects that. It may not be as good as the sequel, but it's absolutely a must-play for all gamers who would like to experience history being made, and especially those who are eying Gears of War 2 right now.
