There was a time when co-op games were thought of as forgotten relics of the past, with current titles focusing more on grand multiplayer experiences or concise single-player adventures. However, these notions were dashed once the industry rediscovered the true potential of a co-op experience, especially with your significant other.

As a result, more mainstream titles have made a habit of incorporating co-op gameplay whenever possible, if not creating an entire title that hinges on it. The Xbox One is home to some of the best couch co-op games on the market for you and your partner to play and create great memories. Its vast library of games will have you cheering, laughing, and battling for top scores all night long.

Fortunately, regardless of your console and gaming station, there are plenty of wonderful titles for couples, from cozy cooperative experiences to chaotic competitive titles. In the case of the Xbox One, couples will be well served with a wonderful selection of games to choose from. In fact, there are so many great options that we felt we needed to add a few more.

25 It Takes Two

It Takes Two is an excellent co-op adventure that is the perfect game to play with a partner. The story of Cody and May as they settle their differences and regain their daughter's trust makes for a great time. However, there are a few moments when things get hairy and might even make you question the nature of your relationship. But hey, if they can get past it, so can you.

The quality of the writing itself might not be excellent, but the gameplay more than makes up for it. It Takes Two is a step in the right direction, and we can't wait to see what else Hazelight Studios has to offer.

24 Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is a deep, rewarding, and neverending experience that has you build a farm, fall in love, start a family, and get up to unexpected mishaps. The cherry on top of this already excellent dessert is that you can experience this together with your significant other, allowing both of you to take care of the farm.

Not only is Stardew Valley one of the most relaxing games you can play, but it has a near-endless supply of content, allowing you to get lost in its world for hours on end without even realizing it. This is the perfect game for a couple who wants to build something together, maintain it, and explore the unknown.

23 Haven

The Game Bakers are known primarily for their work on Furi, so the fact that they also made Haven is pretty interesting. This title couldn't be further away from the pulse-pounding gameplay of the previous title.

Instead, Haven is a relaxing game that takes a surprisingly human and engaging look at the lives of a couple that escapes to a planet that they're trying to rejuvenate. The game might have the occasional misstep or two, but its heart is in the right place, and the addition of co-op gameplay means you can enjoy the story with your S.O.

22 Unravel Two

Unravel Two is a sequel that has adopted a co-op approach. As a result, two people can now solve puzzles and use their yarn to help clear obstacles, overcome challenges, and progress through the story.

There might not be much going for Unravel Two, but the core gameplay is decent enough. Couples might not have much to do in this title aside from the few optional challenges that can be downright frustrating to complete at times.

21 Halo: The Master Chief Collection

For those of you who are huge Halo fans, you can't go wrong with The Master Chief Collection. It is one of the best co-op experiences and includes every Halo title up to Halo Reach. The game offers tons of different maps and missions to play through, and you can do it all in split-screen.

Halo is one of the most popular first-person shooter series of all time for a good reason. If you or your partner are new to the game, it also offers multiple difficulty levels, so you can start on more manageable levels before working your way up. A couple that finishes the fight together stays together.

20 Team Sonic Racing

Since you can't play Mario Kart on Xbox One, it's not a bad idea to check out Team Sonic Racing. You and your partner can get in on the action together as you race toward the finish line against other teams.

It supports multiplayer with up to four people, so it could even make for the perfect group date night. There are more than 15 racers to choose from and over 21 different tracks to use, plus you can even customize your own vehicle.

19 Sea Of Thieves

Become a pirate legend in this adventure game where you journey across the high seas. Attack rival pirate ships, loot them, and hunt down all the legendary treasures you can find. Sea of Thieves lets you and your significant other live out your pirate fantasies in a fully realized world full of things to see and do.

The game includes a multiplayer mode that lets you come across other players while traversing the seas in your own ship. You can also collect various cosmetic items and weaponry to enhance your ship and make the battles more tense and entertaining.

18 Monster Hunter World

Monster Hunter World is a massive action-adventure role-playing game that offers both single-player and multiplayer modes. You get to roam through various biomes to hunt a variety of monsters. You can do so alone or with a group of people.

Once you defeat monsters, you can scavenge them for materials to upgrade your weapons and gear. The game has a high fantasy setting and offers a story mode with missions that will send you on hunts for particular creatures. Tracking down a monster for several minutes before unleashing everything you have on it will never get old, especially with your partner in crime.

17 Gears 5

Gears 5 is a fantastic co-op game with split-screen and excellent visuals. You and your significant other will have a blast playing through the main campaign while sitting side-by-side on a cozy couch.

There are also five different modes for you to choose from in addition to the main campaign, where the Swarm has corrupted a robot army, Escape, Horde, Versus, and Map Builder. Each one offers you a different way to play the game, depending on what you and the person you're playing with are after.

16 Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is a couch co-op adventure for up to four players. This love-themed action adventure is the perfect way to strengthen any relationship.

You and your companion will be tasked with piloting a circular spaceship through the galaxy, defending the universe against the evil entity, Anti-Love. To do so, you will need to work together to frantically man your ship's shields, guns, and thrusters or risk being destroyed.

15 Minecraft

After over a decade of building, battling, and exploring Minecraft is still going strong with millions of active players. Xbox One owners can build new worlds, craft items, and explore the depths of this massive universe, all with their partner in tow.

Minecraft supports local co-op, both offline and online. The relaxing soundtrack and meditation-like gameplay are great ways to unwind and escape with your significant other. Grab a pickaxe and build something together!

14 The Lego Games

The Lego video games have been popular since 1997. Over the years, Lego has launched countless entries, adopting themes from other popular IPs such as Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel, and DC Comics.

With so many to choose from on Xbox One, there is a little something for everyone in these games. You and your partner are sure to find one you both enjoy. Split-screen co-op has become a staple in Lego games, meaning both of you can explore the colorful, blocky worlds together.

13 Rayman Legends

Rayman found new life with Ubisoft's Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends. These titles did away with the 3D platforming of games past and instead adopted a gorgeous 2D side-scrolling style. The hand-painted backdrops will surely draw players in, but the real joy lies in the challenging gameplay. Xbox One owners can tackle Rayman Legends as a team in its local co-op mode.

You and your boo can each play as your own characters in this shared-screen experience. You will solve puzzles, defeat monsters, and try not to fall to your death. Luckily, if one of you falls, the other is there to pick you up again and continue the journey - just how your relationship should be.

While Rayman Legends has more content than Rayman Origins, the previous adventure is also a great pick for couples in the Xbox One.

12 Spiritfarer

Spiritfarer is a game that probably flew under most people's radar. Still, it is absolutely worth seeking out, especially alongside your partner who wants to play one of the coziest games ever made about the concept of death. While that may seem dark, Spiritfarer does a remarkably beautiful job of pulling at your heartstrings and making you feel at peace.

There will be many moments where you will sob from the emotional weight of the events that transpired, but letting it all out with your significant other will help soften the blow. Spiritfarer is an adventure worth experiencing at least once and nails everything it sets out to do and then some, making it hard not to recommend.

11 Borderlands Series

Welcome to the world of Pandora. If guns, loot, and destruction (of others) are something you value in your relationship, then this game is perfect for you. The whacky, over-the-top nature of the Borderlands series is sure to keep some players engaged for long hours, with the hooks of its fundamentally intoxicating gameplay making you never want to put it down again.

Choose from older titles like Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, or newer ones, including Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. With all games available to be played entirely in split-screen, players will have countless hours of questing and exploring at their fingertips.

10 A Way Out

A Way Out is Hazelight's first title. Set in the 1970s, this two-player adventure is designed entirely with co-op play in mind. You and your partner will take the roles of Vincent and Leo, two criminals with troubled pasts.

You must work together to escape prison using cooperative methods and simultaneous quick-time events. By the end of your adventure, both of you will be invested in Vince and Leo's tragic tale, making this title a perfect choice for game night.

9 Diablo 3

A follow-up to the popular dungeon-crawling series, Diablo 3 brings Blizzard's tried-and-true loot-grinding formula into the new age and to consoles for the first time in its storied history. Even if this genre isn't typically your cup of tea, playing it alongside your companion will surely be enough to get you on the hook.

Up to four players can party up and explore crypts, caves, and temples together while slaying thousands of monsters. The desire to acquire better weapons and armor will have you constantly saying: "Just one more dungeon." There are also 13 different Torment difficulty levels to test your skills.

8 Overcooked 1 & 2

On paper, Overcooked may sound mundane. You and up to four players manage a kitchen, preparing food orders and filling recipes. The truth, however, is that this frantic cooking game is far from ordinary. You will be running across various bizarre levels, trying to keep up with orders.

The wacky kitchens range from the back of a moving truck to a pirate ship. The game constantly throws curveballs at you as you try to keep the food from burning and customers happy. Within minutes, you and your partner will be shouting orders at each other, trying to keep everything from falling apart. Few co-op experiences are this exhilarating.

7 The Dark Pictures Anthology

The Dark Pictures Anthology is a series of horror games from Supermassive Games, split up into several seasons comprised of chapters. The first season is already released, which consists of four games: Man of Medan, Little Hope, House of Ashes, and The Devil in Me. These games are interactive dramas mixed expertly with the survival horror genre, making for an excellent spooky game to play with a partner.

With season two set to add the series' final four games into the mix, there's no better time to jump on season one of The Dark Pictures Anthology. If you and your partner love gruesome, campy, and immensely terrifying media, this is right up your alley. There's nothing quite like making life-altering decisions in a split second before realizing you messed up tremendously and having your favorite character get eradicated as a result. Not that we're speaking from experience or anything...

6 Rocket League

The best way to describe Rocket League is 'car soccer,' but in truth, it is so much more. The tight controls and techniques make this game a ballet of flying cars and soccer balls competing to land a goal or showcase your excellent goalie skills to prevent them.

Players will need to score goals using their car across multiple stages. The premise is simple, but this is a game that can suck up hours of your time without you even noticing. It is pure, unadulterated fun, and you can play split-screen.
