Compared to the reveal of the Xbox Series X, the Internet was more readily available to poke fun at the Xbox Series S’ design. It’s not completely outrageous but it is designed in a way that makes it easy to photoshop all kinds of things on it.
The creativity shown online from these Xbox fans never ceases to amaze. Granted, a lot of these jokes focus on similar things, like the vent looking like a speaker. From boom boxes to food, these are the best memes that will make even the higher-ups at Microsoft chuckle. Hopefully, the launch and console itself won’t be as funny.
10 The Plankton Box
This would not be the first novelty Xbox ever created. Microsoft makes seemingly odd partnerships for exclusive consoles all the time. Remember the Xbox 360 that looked like R2D2 with the controller that looked C3P0? This Plankton version of the Xbox Series S actually looks on-brand, and the controller honestly looks pretty cool. Microsoft should work out a deal to bundle this with Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated.
9 Xbox Monitor
Another great call back to everyone’s favorite cartoon sponge involves the episode “Hall Monitor" in which Patrick mistakes SpongeBob as a burglar following him.
The joke of this meme having the PS5 following him instead with the Xbox Series S as the walkie-talkie is priceless. SpongeBob SquarePants is like the Rosetta Stone of meme creation.
8 Clean Gaming
Getting away from SpongeBob, this meme imagines what it would be like if the Xbox Series S also did laundry. Remember when Microsoft was pushing the all in one entertainment idea for the Xbox One? What about a box that could not only entertain, but clean, as well? That would have to be a huge system, and this console is supposed to be Microsoft’s smallest ever. The joke is still funny, though.
7 Boom Series Box
Going back to the walkie-talkie joke, this meme also imagines the black vent as a speaker. Only, this speaker is part of a radio. Actually, this radio is not doctored at all besides the title. The joke here then is that a typical 80s tape deck has a similar design to the Xbox Series S, which may make the picture funnier. It also harkens back to the strange similarities between the original Xbox One and a VCR player.
6 Xbox, Say Anything
This a play on Say Anything, the classic 80s film starring John Cusack and Ione Skye. It’s another one of those scenes that has been referenced to hell and back from pop culture spoofs to good old memes. If this were remade today with nerd love in mind, holding up an Xbox Series S may make sense. A better console to hold up maybe the Nintendo Switch, as that doesn’t need power. The ball is in Hollywood’s court.
5 One More Time
This is basically the same meme, only with a less touching mentality behind it. There are some truly amazing console hacks and mods out there. The Xbox Series S may not be that big to truly emulate a boom box, but, if someone were to make a small one and punk around campus with music blaring, it would get attention for sure. Memes like this one can often be a source of inspiration.
4 Order Up
This is another meme that has been thrown around for a couple of different pictures. If it looks like a walkie-talkie, then surely it also fits as a communication box at a fast-food drive-thru. That might be the mentality behind this joke anyway. Would the Xbox Series S finally fix that static issue, or is the white noise something hungry people must endure if they want delicious but non-nutritious meals?
3 All Digital Cooking
Who needs fast food when this thing can fry an egg? Besides an intercom or speaker, that black vent does sort of look like a hot plate.
Hopefully, the Xbox Series S will not get that hot though and create another Red Ring of Death scenario. Eggs don’t need a lot to get going, but, if a cooling vent can cook an egg, that’s a problem. Or, as this meme points out, maybe it’s a feature.
2 The Grill Series X
This last food-related meme has the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, jumping in to promote his latest grill machine. It’s a play on the George Foreman Grills that were hard to avoid on TV in the 90s and early 2000s. This was actually joked about when the PS3 was first unveiled, although that design seemed more reasonable; that bulbous front had to be hiding something.
1 Fans Only
Last, but not least, is the Xbox AC unit. That’s the dream, right? Consumers want their machines to stay cool while they game. They also want their system to be quiet while doing so, and they do not want to hear their systems getting ready for a takeoff.
How will that giant vent handle the Xbox Series S? It may look weird, which is obviously why it is getting memed so heavily online, but hopefully it will be a practical solution to keeping the console nice and cool.
