Rage 2 is officially a thing. Bethesda dropped a gameplay trailer for it today that shows of its kinetic shooter combat, crazy enemies, and Mad Max-style vehicles.

The gameplay trailer is fast and furious, but definitely shows the tone developers id and Avalanche studios are going for. We see a wild, post-apocalyptic world where anything goes. That extends to the gameplay as well. An open world is hinted at, complete with tanks and a car to help players traverse it. As for combat, players are given access to superpowers, mechs, and lots and lots of guns.

Bethesda promises "you can go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything."

The story seems reminiscent of Fallout, albeit with an even greater sense of madness and violence. The Youtube description tells of a world where gangs roam and a draconian organization known as The Authority aims to dominate all. The player character is named Walker, the "last Ranger of the wasteland." (Unfortunately not played by Chuck Norris.) Players pick up with Walker left for dead and alone in the world. Using every violent mean possible, Walker will take on The Authority and crush its rule once and for all. Because what else do you do with an evil authoritarian institution?

One thing Rage 2 is doing that should make gamers breath a sigh of relief is present a bold color palette. Most post-apocalyptic settings pour on the brown, so it's nice to Rage 2 give us some neon, at least in the marketing. That, and the trailer's music, are as assurance that the game aims to be just as fun and whimsical as it is savage and violent.

The news of Rage 2 isn't exactly shocking. The game was sort of leaked last week when Walmart Canada released a slew of pre-order listings for games that don't exist yet. Bethesda even responded to Walmart Canada's listing with a sarcastic correction, but never denied it.

Rage 2 does not yet have a release date, and will release on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
