It’s been one heck of a busy week in the gaming industry, and it shows no signs of slowing down as we head into the weekend. For example, we recently saw that Nintendo confirmed it will not be attending E3 this year, lending credence to reports from earlier this month.

Elsewhere, the Pokemon anime has decided to move on from Ash’s Pikachu by giving us a different Pikachu, and Dragon Age: Origins lead writer David Gaider has called for a PS5 remake with all the “bells and whistles” attached. For all the details, just read on.

Nintendo Confirms It Won't Be Attending E3 2023

Will start off with the big news that Nintendo won’t be at E3 this year, backing up a report from earlier this month that claims none of the big 3 will be attending. Nintendo clarified that it will always be “a strong supporter of the ESA and E3” but stated that actually appearing at this year’s show “didn’t fit into our plans”. That’s going to be a big blow for E3, although we can probably expect a separate Nintendo showcase at some point during the summer.

New Pokemon Anime Has Its Own Pikachu, A Seafaring Captain

Sticking with Nintendo, and questions were raised about who Pokemon’s new mascot was going to be once Ash’s Pikachu retires. Turns out, the anime is just going to give us a different Pikachu in its place, as a new character called Freed has been revealed who will accompany Liko and Roy on their travels. Freed’s partner Pokemon is called Captain Pikachu, which looks to be a much sassier version of the little yellow mouse we’ve come to know and love.

Dragon Age: Origins Lead Writer David Gaider Wants A Remake

Dragon Age: Origins is considered the best title in the series by quite a lot of fans, but to say it looks a little dated would be being kind. It’s definitely not the prettiest game to look at, which is likely why lead writer David Gaiter has called on EA to develop a remake following the success of the Dead Space remake. He even states that he’d like to see a potential version of the game with all the “PS5-era bells and whistles”. Wouldn’t we all David.

PlayStation's Summer Showcase To Set Up The "Second Phase" Of PS5 Announcements

If you thought that PlayStation’s latest State of Play showcase was a little lackluster, it turns out there may be a good reason for it. According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, who accurately predicted the recent State of Play, Sony is saving its big announcement for a larger PlayStation showcase that will take place before E3. Grubb also claims that during this event, we will see the company announce the “second phase” of PS5 titles.

Finally, one of the more exciting announcements from last night’s State of Play was the reveal that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be getting a PS5 port, although concerns were raised about the title being a PlayStation console exclusive. However, neither developer Larian Studios nor Sony itself have claimed as much, leading fans to believe that an Xbox port could follow shortly after release.
