Winnie The Pooh Becomes Public Domain

The beloved franchise Winnie the Pooh finally went public along with many other works of literature, film, and music. This means that everyone is “legally entitled to repurpose, reproduce, distribute, and disseminate the work without payment or permission by its previous owners.” In other words, we might be getting some Winnie the Pooh games in the future. There have already been quite a few of these, but with the franchise now in the public domain, we can expect a lot more to come.

Resident Evil Village Wins Steam Award For Game Of The Year

Steam hands out its awards each year after users vote for their favorite nominees. Resident Evil Village was crowned Game of the Year this time around, beating several big names including New World, Valheim, Cyberpunk 2077, and Forza Horizon 5. This comes in the wake of almost universally positive reviews. The game also sold over 5 million copies on Steam, turning Resident Evil Village into a Platinum seller.

BioShock Creator’s Next Game Might Never Release

We haven’t heard much from Kevin Levine recently and there’s a pretty good reason for this. He founded Ghost Story Games to work on a personal project involving “narrative Lego” after dissolving Irrational Games in 2014. But things appear to have gone downhill in a hurry. The project apparently suffered from “poor planning, conflicting managerial styles, and a lack of oversight” by the publisher, bringing production to a complete standstill. The result is that we may never see the game despite seven years of development.

Halo Co-Creator Is Loving The Halo Infinite Campaign

Marcus Lehto was the Art Director on Halo: Combat Evolved. He was largely responsible for creating the franchise and apparently came up with the character of Master Chief. Lehto recently weighed in on the most recent entry in the series, Halo Infinite, with some pretty high praise. "Hats off to my friends at 343,” Lehto said. He went on to describe how the campaign “brings back the magic of Halo.” Looks like he left the franchise in the right hands.

Games Workshop Founder Ian Livingstone Gets Knighted

The holidays tend to be when awards are handed out and there have been some big ones this time around. Ian Livingstone has been made a knight after 50 years in the games industry. This comes after he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2006 and Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2013. Livingstone is mostly known for having founded Games Workshop in 1975 with his partners John Peake and Steve Jackson. What does the future have in store for him? Probably more awards.
