If you want to quickly traverse Biomutant's sprawling world, one of the first things you'll need to do is find a mount. These are scattered throughout all biomes, and you'll even stumble upon some during the main storyline that offer powerful new abilities.

However, if you're looking to catch a wild beast and tame it, there are a few steps you'll need to follow. Here's how to get a mount in Biomutant.

Find A Mount And Its Food Source

When trying to tame a mount in Biomutant, you'll typically need to do two things:

  • Find an animal that can be tamed.
  • Find its food source to claim it as a mount.

It sounds easy on paper, but it's a bit more complex than you'd expect. First off, stumbling across a mount in the early portions of Biomutant can be difficult. We'd recommend sticking to the main roads when traveling from quest to quest, as you're almost guaranteed to run into a few herds within your first couple hours of game time.

Once you've discovered a tame-able beast, you can tame it by feeding it a specific type of food. These so-called Pips are located throughout Biomutant in tiny shrubs that look like this:

Simply slide under its branches and you'll add the food source to your inventory. With the Pip in your inventory, you can now head back to your prospective mount and interact with it – if you've found the right food, the animal will become a rideable mount. Pips can typically be found in the same environment as their target mount, so don't feel the need to stray too far into the wild.

How To Ride Your New Mount

Mounts control exactly the same as your main character, although they tend to move slightly faster and jump a bit further. A few mounts come with exclusive abilities – one, for example, actually comes with a built-in gun – although Biomutant will give you a detailed rundown of anything unique to the mount once it's been unlocked.

If you happen to lose track of your mount, simply pull up the in-game mount menu – on PS5 and Xbox Series X this is set to "Down" on the D-Pad – and you can summon your mount to your location.

Keep Track Of Your Collection

Biomutant has dozens of unlockable mounts, and keeping track of them is surprisingly easy. Open the in-game menu and head to the world map. From there, toggle over to the "Mount" section. This will show you a full list of all mounts currently in your stable.

As for all the Pips you've collected, these can be found in your inventory under the "Miscellaneous" tab. Each Pip can only be used with specific mounts, so it's a good idea to keep an eye on your inventory if you're planning to do a bit of mount hunting.
