Biomutant is a gorgeous game. Its world is bursting with color – most of which is hazardous to your health, but beautiful to look at, nonetheless. Experiment 101 decided to include a Photo Mode with the game, giving you an easy way to capture impressive photos at the press of a button.

Although it never gets an in-depth tutorial, capturing photos is a relatively easy process. Here's what you need to know about using Biomutant's Photo Mode.

How To Use Photo Mode

Biomutant Photo Mode Controls

To use Photo Mode, pause your game and head to the System Menu. From there, simply scroll down and select Photo Mode. You'll also see hotkeys to quickly activate Photo Mode without needing to navigate through the menus – on PS5 this defaults to L3 + R3.

Once you've loaded up Photo Mode, there are a few ways you can adjust the image.

  • Depth of Field: Although there isn't a slider for depth of field, you can still toggle a preset on and off. Turn it on, and the background will be blurred, keeping the focus on action happening near the lens.
  • Angle: Biomutant lets you change the angle of image capture. You can even completely invert the image and take upside-down pictures – if that's your kind of thing.
  • Free Movement: You can easily move your camera above, below, or to the side of your subject. You can even zoom in once you find a good spot.
  • Hide UI: This option will toggle off the UI for better pictures.

Biomutant doesn't have a built-in "Photo Capture" button. Instead, you'll need to use the dedicated button on your PS5 or Xbox Series X controller – or the associated hotkey on PC.

Where Are The Photos Saved?

If you're taking photos on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, or PS5, your images will be saved in the associated media folder, which is accessible through the home screen of your console. If you're playing on PC, the image location depends on which service you are using to play the game. Steam, for example, lets you view images by going to the Menu bar, selecting "View," then choosing "Screenshots" from the drop-down menu.

Why Should I Use Photo Mode?

Using Biomutant's Photo Mode is a great way to capture high-quality images. Instead of simply smashing F12 or your controller's screengrab button during combat, you can pause the action entirely and take pictures without worrying about all the deadly beasts surrounding you. It's a bit of a shame that it doesn’t include a variety of filters or other options to adjust your shot, but having the ability to pause the game and remove UI elements makes it easy to capture incredibly clean pictures.
