Electronic Arts confirmed in a May 8th financial call that their upcoming game Anthem will officially be released in March 2019. This means fans who are looking forward to the game have less than a year to wait for the game to hit shelves.
On the call, as reported by Game Informer, Electronic Arts' CEO Andrew Wilson made prepared remarks about the forthcoming game saying it was, "stunning and ambitious."
In the same financial call, Electronic Arts' Blake Jorgensen said that the game will be, "will be shipped in the last quarter of the year and in the last month of that quarter". As EA's fiscal year runs from April to March, this means that the game will be launching in March based on current schedules.
Many fans are speculating about what the plot of the game will look like, or whether or not Anthem will resemble other games that are currently on the market.
EA has been a closed book about the plot, but has been open about how it is a co-op and social experience for players. Wilson mirrored this when he said, "Anthem is a fundamentally social experience, and we will open new ways for fans to join the community and play early, enabling us to shape and refine the game with their input and feedback."
Anthem will be the first IP for Bioware since Dragon Age:Origins in 2009. This was something that was also mentioned at the financial call, with EA highlighting how they are conscientious of the fact that this game is not only being released at the end of the fiscal year, but also that there isn't an already established fanbase.
In regards to this, Jorgensen said, "We're very excited about the game. It's extremely unique, and I think players are going to really enjoy playing it, but we're careful not to put too large of a forecast in there. And clearly, it will impact this year as well as next year as we not only continue to sell more into the next year but start rolling out the live services associated with that game."
Whether or not the game will be for everyone is yet to be known, but fans who are looking forward to the game can be sure that EA will be announcing something around the upcoming Anthem next month at E3.
