BioWare is well-known for making outstanding role-playing games. Their assortment of prodigious genre entries allows players to trust BioWare with our favorite franchises. BioWare is a starter and not a follower. The unique nature of their games makes them stand out from other role-playing games.

Be warned, Anthem fans: Anthem did not make this list. Developers from BioWare are currently looking at improving the game through a series of updates. The state of Anthem today is not anything like how BioWare expected. Hopefully, there will be a day when it's consistent and playable. In the meantime, we can get back to why we love BioWare as a company by ranking their best games.

10 Jade Empire

One of BioWare's lesser-known action role-playing games happens to be one of their best. Jade Empire released before BioWare and Electronic Arts' 2007 merger. To give a sense about what Jade Empire is about, think of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic with real-time combat instead of turn-based.

In Jade Empire, you play as the last living Spirit Monk and can influence the story's outcomes. People loved Jade Empire when it came out; it was later ported to PC. Amazingly, a new language was constructed just for the game.

9 Neverwinter Nights

Few companies can beat BioWare when it comes to role-playing games. Neverwinter Nights is another timeless classic that came from the team. In Neverwinter Nights, players complete various quests based on Dungeons and Dragons. The game's success led the way for a sequel.

Obsidian Entertainment is credited with developing Neverwinter Nights 2 and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. Obsidian Entertainment did such an excellent job with both of the previously mentioned BioWare sequels, which would have made this list had they been developed by BioWare.

8 Star Wars: The Old Republic

BioWare's audacious move to create one of the most expensive video games of all time paid off in the long-run. Star Wars: The Old Republic is an MMORPG with a budget of over $200 million. It cost more than Destiny and a bit less than Grand Theft Auto V.

Some people complained that the game deceived buyers who thought it was a sequel to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. At launch, there was a ton of bugs in the game. It didn't dethrone World of Warcraft like the developers intended, but the game is not that bad once you get into it.

7 Baldur's Gate

The game that kicked off the Baldur's Gate franchise happens to be one of the best. Baldur's Gate is like many of BioWare's hits: a role-playing game that is set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons. Most importantly, the first Baldur's Gate game is fun.

The hack and slash nature of the game is reminiscent of Diablo, and the two are often compared to each other. In Baldur's Gate, however, it will take more time to complete the game and you'll have to use strategy to achieve objectives.

6 Mass Effect 3

Mass Effect 3 is an excellent entry in the Mass Effect series, but it did not have as much of an impact as Mass Effect 2. Also, the story of Mass Effect 3 was slightly less appealing. It is widely agreed that Mass Effect 3 had the worst ending of the series.

The end level was lackluster, and to make it a choice between A, B, and C at the end was not well-received by the community. Overall, Mass Effect 3 doesn't stray too far from the series norms and delivers an enjoyable experience. It's not the best Mass Effect game, but it's worth playing.

5 Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn was a significant improvement over Baldur's Gate, and there are a plethora of reasons why. The combat is way more exciting, teammates rely more on each other, and the story was far more interesting.

Baldur's Gate II has awesome gameplay, and that's why it deserves a high spot on this list. Whereas the first Baldur's Gate had dull moments, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn had more player engagement. If you only get to play one Baldur's Gate game, you'll want to choose Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition. The Enhanced Edition is a remake that includes the expansion, Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal.

4 Mass Effect

The game that kicked off the Mass Effect franchise is one of the strongest in the series. Many of the elements from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic were put into Mass Effect. The concept a spaceship that can travel to different planets is present in both games. While Mass Effect uses the Normandy, KOTOR used the Ebon Hawk.

Mass Effect is credited for having rich dialogue and taking role-playing games a step further. It's a must play for fans of the RPG genre. BioWare boldly added an abundance of planets to visit in Mass Effect.

3 Dragon Age: Origins

One of the main reasons people consider Dragon Age: Origins to be the strongest entry in the Dragon Age franchise is because of the depth of its story. Dragon Age: Origins released in 2009 for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

Some prefer Dragon Age: Inquisition, and they are entitled to that opinion. In the year that Dragon Age: Origins released, you could have chosen Fallout 3 for an apocalyptic wasteland setting or Dragon Age: Origins for a Dungeons and Dragons-like experience. The game is comparable to Skyrim, except its combat is turn-based. Taking a look at how Dragon Age: Origins is built, it could easily be turned into a successful MMORPG.

2 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic had a meaningful impact on video games. Released before Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic does a spectacular job of chronicling the path of a Jedi. The game contains dialogue options that allow players to influence the events of the game.

Some may consider Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic to be BioWare's best game. Being able to craft a lightsaber and choose between following the light or dark side made it stand out. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 was not made by BioWare, but BioWare did plan to make a sequel at one time. Sadly, now that the team is a subsidiary of Electronic Arts, it is uncertain if we'll ever get the sequel we deserve.

1 Mass Effect 2

Undoubtedly, Mass Effect 2 remains the best BioWare game to date. Its significant improvement in gameplay brought us something we never predicted. The game contains voice performances from famous actors like Martin Sheen, Carrie Anne Moss, and Seth Green.

Mass Effect 2 had arguably the most intriguing story. You play as Commander Shepard, a person whose background is chosen through in-game dialogue options. Shepard tries to save the Milky Way galaxy from a Reaper invasion. One might wonder what went wrong with Mass Effect: Andromeda after playing this game, so if you haven't played Mass Effect 2 yet, you are missing out!
