Black Desert Mobile has been making waves since its global launch this past December, with over 20 million downloads to date. It offers mobile-exclusive features, which went over well with the game's existing PC and console player base. The developers are also steadily introducing content from the game's PC and console versions, which only bolsters the crossover interest amongst fans.
In a recent interview with Pearl Abyss' CEO, Jeonghee Jin, she detailed plans to achieve content parity across all platforms, even blowing wind into the sails of a rumored crossover event.
In the interview, Jin shares her outlook on the future of mobile gaming and the rise of console-quality mobile titles. There seems to be a big market for complex, but palm-sized gameplay experiences, and the CEO cites a growing and diverse gamer demographic as the cause.
Jeonghee Jin also touched on Black Desert's crossover player base. While she makes a point to note the company does not track their players from one platform to another, community discussions have been observed comparing content across platforms. This is an exciting notion for Pearl Abyss, and Jeonghee shared the company's hopes of witnessing more interactions between the communities as events progress.
When asked if Pearl Abyss aimed to match mobile content standards with that of the PC and console, Jin gave a definitive yes. Mobile players saw this lofty goal put in motion in January when developers introduced the Sorceress class to mobile platforms along with a new region to explore. When all is said and done, Black Desert Mobile aims to offer all the content of PC and consoles in terms of character classes and regions.
Further on, the interview turns to talk of in-game events, and Jin praises the company's capacity for hosting live and seasonal events. She goes on to share hopes of implementing these festivities on mobile platforms. This engaging news, coupled with Pearl Abyss' overall content goals and the crossover player interest, all point to the strong possibility of a cross-platform event.
The matter wasn't left up to speculation, though. Jeonghee Jin was asked point-blank if there were plans for a Black Desert Mobile and PC crossover event. While not as definitive as some of her other answers, Jin's response was promising.
"We are thinking about it. One day, we hope to implement those things more."
With no lack of gumption from Pearl Abyss and an evident market for cross-platform content, a crossover event definitely seems to be in the cards for Black Desert. The developers will be busy for a while yet, bringing the mobile content up to par with its PC and console counterparts. When the game's many features are cohesive across all platforms, a crossover event will be the perfect way to celebrate.
