We're just a few months away from the return of Black Ops to the Call of Duty franchise. Black Ops Cold War will be a direct sequel to the first Black Ops game, continuing the story of iconic characters like Frank Woods, Alex Mason, and Russell Adler. And the latest trailer showcases what we can expect in the early part of the upcoming game.
At Trabzon Airfield in Turkey, the three Black Ops commandos have finally tracked down Arash Kadivar, a mysterious figure with links to Perseus. Tasked with eliminating Arash, the trio set up an overwatch as a Russian cargo plane is loaded with supplies with the intent of taking Arash out with a well-placed bullet to the head.
Things go wrong, however, and the team is forced into an intense gunfight. Playing as Mason, the player takes out multiple enemy soldiers in especially brutal ways before Adler and Woods managed to flag him down for a good old fashioned car chase scene.
Another missed sniper shot leads the team to reconsider their tactics and deploy the supercharged RC bomb. This finally takes out the Russian cargo plane and results in a multi-car pileup on what must be the longest runway on Earth.
In addition to the sweet campaign footage, the PS5 showcase also treated us to a surprise announcement. This Friday, PS4 owners will be able to experience Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s multiplayer first-hand with an early alpha test. The test will run this weekend, September 18 to September 20. This is an alpha, so expect things to be rough as all hell, but also expect this to be the absolute soonest anyone ever will be able to catch a glimpse of Black Ops Cold War in action.
For those looking for a slightly more polished experience, we recommend waiting for the multiplayer beta test that arrives in October.
