Just in time for Halloween, a VR version of Bloober Team’s Blair Witch game will be available for Oculus Quest on October 29. Blair Witch: Oculus Quest Edition, which features enhanced dog interaction mechanics, is an adaptation of the 2019 survival horror game based on the 1999 cult classic.

Bloober Team, a Polish video game developer based in Kraków, was founded in November 2008 by Peter Babieno and Peter Bielatowicz. The company is best known for developing Layers of Fear, Observer, and Blair Witch. The VR adaptation has been described as a “brand-new version of the Blair Witch story built specifically for the VR experience” with a “rebuilt” story and “redesigned environments.”

Players will be able to use the VR’s hand controllers to further interact with the world as Ellis, a former police officer that joins a search party for a boy who went missing in the Black Hills Forest. Ellis is accompanied by his ever-loyal canine companion, Bullet. In the VR version, players can stack and throw objects, draw maps to chart progress or even play fetch or feed Bullet treats.

In addition, there will be new creatures lurking about the forest, heightened sound effects, and the ability to open drawers, doors, gates, and more. The overall experience is expected to be much more immersive, intense, and terrifying. Some fear that the game may prove problematic as a VR experience since it is hard to transfer the mechanical experience of wandering through an expansive forest to a VR platform.

Blair Witch, which was originally released as a non-VR horror game, is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. The VR edition will be exclusive to Oculus Quest, which will run on the Oculus Quest 2 – which launches on October 13 – for $29.99. It will also be released to additional headsets in the coming months. Meanwhile, Bloober Team is developing The Medium, a supernatural horror game that is expected to launch later this year.
