Blizzard is working on Diablo III crossplay between all major consoles, according to a new report.

Crossplay is the latest fad to sweep gaming nation, and we here at TheGamer are all for it. First, we had Minecraft crossplay that saw everyone play their favorite cubists dream together, and just recently we heard Sony finally give in and allow Fortnite to be played between consoles as well.

Now, according to Business Insider Australia, Blizzard is working on bringing Diablo III crossplay across seven gaming systems.

During an interview, a Blizzard rep revealed that the Irvine California-based studio is "actively working with partners at Sony and Microsoft to enable cross-console play with Diablo III on Switch.

“It’s a question of when, not if,” the rep continued.

The current console version of Diablo III is essentially identical across all the major gaming consoles, including Switch, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, making it simple to allow crossplay between all platforms. There are, however, several differences between the PC and Mac versions (such as the complete lack of the dodge ability), which might mean that cross-play between consoles and desktop computers will remain impossible. But we’re going to keep our fingers crossed for true crossplay across everywhere and everything.

We also know that Blizzard has “multiple projects” in the works, which might also mean a mobile version of the game. If Diablo III were to make it to iOS and Android, that would mean eight total platforms for a 6-year-old game.

On top of that, Blizzard has a big announcement for Diablo fans judging by the fact that Diablo takes center stage at the beginning of BlizzCon 2018. It’s widely speculated that we might see a brand new Diablo game rather than just more Diablo III ports.

But rather than be Diablo VI, we might be in for something called Diablo Reign of Terror. New merch available on the Blizzard site, including a poster and two t-shirts, have the name “Diablo Reign of Terror”, which could either be the name of a new game or just the name of these particular items.

Whatever this is, it’s going to be big news that we’ll hear about first at this year’s BlizzCon.
