Long gone are the days of having to physically travel to a brick-and-mortar building to snag the latest movies and video games to have made their way to Blockbuster store shelves for rental and home-viewing consumption. As 90s kids (now old enough to have kids of their own) pine for the glory days of yesteryear, they can now share a reenvisioned Blockbuster experience with their families, thanks to new The Blockbuster Party Game.

The Blockbuster Party Game is a tabletop board game, which is no doubt another pastime that plenty of 90s kids took part in. The game is developed by Big Potato, who is no stranger to the genre having created other board games including Scrawl Board Game and The Chameleon Board Game.

What makes The Blockbuster Party Game so special is that everything is on brand with an in-person Blockbuster experience. The box itself is designed to resemble the plastic Blockbuster VHS shell, while the actual game board looks exactly like a parking lot under the familiar shadow of a towering Blockbuster sign.

The game is played in teams and consists of two phases, with the overall goal being to collect a movie from every genre. Round one features a head-to-head buzzer-beater battle with two players shouting out movies from 60 categories ranging from “Famous trilogies” to “Movies with a zombie in it,” and slapping the buzzer before time runs out. The winning player receives six movie cards, and gets to give the hardest three to their opponent, while keeping the other three for them and their team. The player then has 30 seconds to get their team to guess the movies on the cards by acting out the film, making up a quote, and describing them with just one word.

If the team guesses quick enough, they can steal cards from the opponent, but if they fail, the other team might get a chance to steal from them.

The Blockbuster Party Game doesn’t require players to have been around while Blockbuster thriving. The game is a perfect fit for teens and adults, especially those who enjoy movies released in the 1990s and 2000s.

The game is currently available for $19.99, and would be a perfect way to kick off a Friday night before settling in to binge watch the latest releases on Hulu or Netflix.
