Now, we’re strictly through the looking glass here, friends, but it’s just possible that FromSoftware’s latest title is hinting at a Bloodborne sequel.

On its release in March 2015, Bloodborne was a huge deal for all sorts of reasons. For one thing, it was a big exclusive for the PS4, which is something this console generation was sorely lacking early in its span. For another, it was simply a fantastic game, a gothic spiritual successor to Dark Souls that took the series (now branded Soulsborne) in new-yet-familiar directions.

Fans all over the world fell for the game, its distinctive art style and super-spooky setting introducing a new crop of gamers to FromSoftware’s unforgiving titles. When the game was released for free via PlayStation Plus in March of this year, a lot more players got in on the action (and old hands returned to help out the newcomers, as we reported at the time).

Needless to say, too, rabid Dark Souls fans hopped on board with Bloodborne as well. In short, it was super-impactful, and there’s been a lot of clamor for a sequel, at every PlayStation show and E3 presentation since. There have been rumors (such as this one, from last May), but so far, nothing doing. However, an obscure reference has just been discovered in Déraciné that may hint towards Bloodborne 2 after all.

Déraciné, for the uninitiated, is a PlayStation VR exclusive from the FromSoftware team, which just launched on November 6th. It’s a first-person adventure title that sees the player trying to solve the mystery of a strange boarding school. Where does Bloodborne fit into this? Well, through the course of Déraciné, you find a doll. The game calls the item Fiona Doll, as Gaming Bolt reports, and as the screenshot above shows, its in-game description is very interesting:

"A doll of the stone girl Fiona, who appears in the unfinished tale. When a person has a bad dream, Fiona appears and helps them flee."

Bloodborne fans will already see what all the fuss is about. First and foremost, it’s a doll, and the doll was a hugely important denizen of the Hunter’s Dream. Then there’s that reference to fleeing from a bad dream, another central concept to Bloodborne.

Of course, this could simply be a nod to the game itself, but some fans are taking the ‘unfinished tale’ part to mean that a sequel is in the offering. It could be the former, or the latter, or neither. Nothing official has been announced yet, and the rumor mill continues to turn. All we know for sure is that it’s something for the grim game’s many fans to keep an eye on.
