Bloodborne is a gothic horror title from the beloved developers over at FromSoftware. Despite making their name with the Dark Souls trilogy, many gamers consider the PS4 exclusive, Bloodborne, to arguably be their best work.

It introduced players to a uniquely haunting and equally fascinating world full of difficult challenges and annoying enemies. The bosses may have been the draw for many, but several normal enemies can leave players frustrated as if they've hit a difficulty-related wall in their experience.

10 First Werewolf/Beast

Bloodborne Enemies first beast werewolf

At the very beginning of the game, you as the player are given the option of either trying to defeat a werewolf with nothing but your fists or simply running past it. The enemy serves as a way for the player to be introduced to the Hunter's Dream, which serves as the central hub for Bloodborne. It gives the player access to the various locations featured in the game. Overcoming the werewolf takes a fair amount of patience and skill, and with a rather small life, bar players will likely meet their end before coming out victorious.

9 Maneater Boar

Bloodborne Enemies Maneater Boar

The Maneater Boar follows a typical pattern utilized by FromSoftware in their games. It is originally introduced as a boss, but after you defeat it the creature will appear in the world as a regular enemy. For patient hunters, these giant pigs can be dispatch with a few backstabs, but those who fail to properly dodge the Maneater Boar when it is in full sprint might not be as successful. The sheer size of these creatures and the fact that they're almost always found in groups of more than one make them a pain to deal with.

8 Giant Fishman

Bloodborne Enemies Giant Fishman

The Giant Fishman is an enemy that players who only completed the base game will be unfamiliar with. It had a major presence in The Old Hunters DLC for Bloodborne, where players could fight two different versions of the underwater nightmare.

The unarmed form is mundane and easy to dispatch, but the ones carrying giant anchors provide a different type of challenge. They can quickly combo their attacks with swings of the anchor that they pair with a grab that inflicts heavy damage on the player.

7 Nightmare Executioner

Bloodborne Enemies Nightmare Executioner

It's safe to say that something named Nightmare Executioner likely won't be someone kind to outsiders. These gargantuan brutes are a combination of the Mountain from Game of Thrones and the vilest depictions of Lovecraftian horror. Players can encounter one of two variants, with one form of the colossal beast wielding a battle ax and the other taking control of a cannon. Both of these variants pack a mean punch and will deplete health bars in the blink of an eye. They reside at both the Nightmare Grand Cathedral and Nightmare Church, both located in the Hunter's Nightmare.

6 Children Of Rom

Bloodborne Enemies Child of Rom

Rom, the Vacuous Spider is a boss fight in Bloodborne that has players trying to damage a giant pillbug turned arachnid. It is surrounded by a host of smaller, but still giant, spiderlings that are referred to as the Children of Rom. These things are what make the boss fight frustrating as Rom's attacks are relatively easy to dodge. The problem is that players must focus on hurting Rom at the same time in which dozens of spiders scatter around its body looking to attack the Hunter when they least expect it.

5 Winter Lantern

Bloodborne Enemies Winter Lantern

Interacting with the Winter Lanterns feels like a boss fight since players must navigate a path without being seen by the entity. For as long as the Hunter remains in its vision the frenzy status effect bar will fill up. When you as the player get close enough to fight them, the best course of action is to use a weapon capable of staggering enemies. The Winter Lanterns are tall grotesque beings that aren't afraid to grab the player and pull them in for a devastating attack. These things are just are dangerous and terrifying as they look.

4 Yahar'gul Hunters

Bloodborne Enemies Yhargul Hunters

Individually the Yahar'gul Hunters are an average challenge at best, but the fact that you as a player have to fight all 3 of them at once is what makes them a challenge. Players who are good at AI manipulation will likely be able to split at least of them from the other and deal with them that way.

Two of them can be found together in the Grand Cathedral, with another group of 3 residing in the Yahar'gul Chapel. The 6th and final one can be found in Bloodborne's DLC hiding behind a door in the Underground Dungeon.

3 Djura's Disciple

Bloodborne Enemies Gatling Gun Hunter

Though he's known as Djura's Disciple, most people refer to this guy featured in The Old Hunters DLC as the Gatling Gun Hunter. With the large unrelenting weapon being his tool of choice, players are forced to take cover and time their counterattacks appropriately. By fighting inside the cave and using the rocks and other terrains for cover, players can stun-lock him with a myriad of attacks and force him out of repeatedly using his Gatling gun. The more experience you are as a player, the easier this guy is to take down.

2 Bloody Crow Of Cainhurst

Bloodborne Enemies Bloody Crow

The Bloody Crow of Cainhurst is an optional fight that can only take place after the Blood Moon rises and if the player has worked through the questline of Eileen the Crow. Upon meeting these criteria the Bloody Crow can be found in the Grand Cathedral. With a combination of patience and careful movement, players will give themselves a better chance of overcoming this ferocious hunter encounter. The biggest challenge with this enemy is his large amount of health and the fact that he dodges constantly. It's all intentional bait used to make the player impatient.

1 Yurie, the Last Scholar

Bloodborne Enemies Yurie last scholar

Yurie, the Last Scholar is a fellow hunter and arguably one of the harder fights in the game outside of any boss battle. She's a member of what is known as the Choir and uses the Threaded Cane as her primary weapon. She's can be found on the first floor of Byrgenwerth, a college of corrupted knowledge. Her one weakness is that players can stagger and stun-lock her due to the long wind-up when using the Threaded Cane. The best strategy is to stay close and simply save enough stamina to quickstep out of her close-range attack where she uses the Augur of Ebrietas.
