If there's one thing a Borderlands 2 player loves above all else, it's loot. It's a good thing then that nearly everything in the Borderlands games will explode into a shower of colorful goodies if you shoot at them enough. And given that the games proclaim to have "bazillions" of different guns available, there's no shortage of loot awaiting players.

Of course, most of the weapons in the Borderlands series can be a bit lackluster, given that they're all procedurally generated. A select few stand above the rest - the legendary tier. These guns (and rocket launchers, and grenades, and other tools of destruction) have wild and incredible effects that set them apart.

This list will cover the best of the best when it comes to Borderlands 2's legendary weaponry.

Updated March 17th, 2021 by Stephen LaGioia: Despite its age, this zany RPG-shooter from Gearbox is still going strong. In fact, even as late as 2019, publisher Take Two has reported that this 2012 release has maintained around a million monthly users. It shouldn't be much of a surprise, given its thrilling, rewarding gameplay and continuing momentum with DLC packs such as Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary. Between these factors, and the game's expansive lineup of awesome guns, it seemed like a good idea to juice up this list with even more of the game's beastly legendaries.

15 Amigo Sincero

Along with the new plant-infested campaign and new foes, the Commander Lilith DLC also brought a palette of new weapons, along with a sleek new rainbow-colored rarity - the Effervescent. Still, one of the best new weapons in this add-on doesn't come in the coveted Effervescent form, or even Pearlescent. Rather, it's this deadly sharp-shooting legendary, the Amigo Sincero.

Aside from its less-than-ideal fire rate, this thing is a beast. Its already sky-high damage output is enhanced even more thanks to its ability to bypass enemy shields. This is bumped up even more when using it in semi-automatic firing mode.

It can be had by playing the mission "BFFFs."

14 Ogre

Borderlands 2 Ogre Drop

Not to be outdone, the memorable Tiny Tina DLC also comes with its fair share of great weapons. Case in point? This beast of an assault rifle from Torgue.

This versatile weapon can crank out loads of damage once it gets spinning, thanks in part to its splash damage bonus and the ability to pelt foes with two shots in rapid succession. Players that end up spraying this hellfire for prolonged periods will likely get more bonus perks, too. In fact, the weapon sports a chance to increase its fire rate and reload speed for a bit while firing, making it even more devastating.

It can be secured from time to time when slaying the miniboss Warlord Slog in Murderlin's Temple.

13 Badaboom

Borderlands 2 Badaboom legendary rocket launcher

This legendary rocket launcher can be a bit of a challenge to obtain, as it drops from the imposing King Mong in the Eridium Blight region. However, it's well worth the trouble to acquire, as its effect is truly stupendous.

The Badaboom fires six rockets at a time, but only costs a single point of ammo to do so, effectively multiplying the potential damage by six. Each rocket does less damage and the gun has overall weaker accuracy, but when the rockets hit, they can absolutely devastate any enemy you come across.

12 HellFire

Borderlands 2 Hellfire

The HellFire is a submachine gun that has a greater chance to be obtained from Scorch, the fiery spiderant located in Frostburn Canyon during the Cult Following quest line. True to its origin, the HellFire has a similarly incendiary power.

The HellFire gun will always deal fire damage to its targets, applying the burning effect on them that deals constant damage over time. This can quickly drain enemies of their hit points, making all but the toughest of badasses fall in mere moments, and dealing significant damage no matter the foe.

11 Conference Call

Borderlands 2 legendary shot gun Conference Call

This shotgun can be dropped by the main story's final boss, the Warrior. While the fight is harrowing, it's absolutely worth it for the copious loot that the alien monster drops upon defeat, including the Conference Call.

Despite its mundane name, the Conference Call is no bore, as the projectiles it fires periodically split, generating new bullets in midair. They also split after impact, making for even more projectiles. These projectiles travel to the left and the right, which can make it a bit difficult to wield the gun accurately. The extra damage generated more than makes up for this, making it a perfect weapon for handling large targets.

10 Bunny

Borderlands 2 legendary rocket launcher Bunny

The Bunny is another rocket launcher that puts a new spin on an existing game mechanic. As a Tediore weapon, the Bunny is reloaded by flinging away the original weapon as a new one is digistructed in your hands. These thrown weapons usually explode like a grenade, but the Bunny behaves quite differently.

When flung, the Bunny will not travel in a straight line as other Tediore weapons do, but will instead bounce around the battlefield in a manner akin to its name. While it does so, it drops live grenades that then explode. This weapon has one of the more ridiculous extra effects, although it can also be one of the more useful if deployed well.

This weapon has a greater chance to show up when slaying "chubby" enemies.

9 Leech

Borderlands 2 tossing legendary Leech Grenade

This grenade behaves similarly to other grenades of the transfusion type in the game. These grenades have the ability to give health back to players after dealing damage. They generate trails that seek out friendly characters and restore some hit points after exploding.

The Leech is a powered-up version of these transfusion grenades. It restores health instantly after exploding, without the healing trails. This can be very advantageous as the trails can often dissipate over time or get trapped in the environment. As an instant healing grenade, the Leech avoids these problems.

It can be obtained as a drop from The Warrior as well as the Handsome Sorcerer in Dragon Keep.

8 Deliverance

Borderlands 2 legendary shot gun Deliverance

The Deliverance shotgun, like the aforementioned Bunny, is a Tediore weapon. This means that it, too, is thrown away when reloaded, and then explodes after a period of time. Like the Bunny, however, it also changes the way this mechanic works.

The Deliverance doesn't just travel in a straight line when thrown. Instead, it homes in on enemies, meaning that aiming your reload is not as crucial. Additionally, it continues to fire while traveling, meaning that it can deal even more damage on top of the explosion and whatever the player deals out.

Those seeking this shotty will have a better chance nabbing it when farming the barf skag Tumbaa in the Wildlife Exploitation Preserve.

7 Gub

Borderlands 2 double barrel Gub Pistol aiming down sights

The Gub has a fairly simple name for an impressive pistol. It can be obtained from Laney White in the Fridge area after defeating her. While the effects the gun carries aren't as visually impressive as some of the others on this list, they're still quite solid.

The Gub deals exceptional damage, has an incredibly large magazine, and is always a corrosive weapon. While this is about the extent of its abilities, it does make for an impressive gun. If a character is built around wielding pistols, then the Gub is especially dangerous, and can be used to great effect.

6 Volcano

Borderlands 2 legendary sniper rifle Volcano

The Volcano is another weapon that can be obtained from the Warrior boss, just like the Conference Call. Instead of a shotgun, however, this weapon is a sniper rifle, for characters who prefer to take a long-distance approach to the game.

The Volcano deals incendiary damage to enemies, and also has higher splash damage than other Maliwan weapons. However, this is less significant when compared to its other ability, which allows the fire to spread from enemy to enemy. When fired at a tightly packed group of foes, this ensures that the burning effect will make short work of them all.

5 Infinity

Borderlands 2 legendary pistol Infinity

The Infinity may not be the best pistol in the game in terms of damage or accuracy or fire rate, but it has a hidden power that makes it a go-to weapon in times of crisis - it doesn't consume ammo. It also fires bullets in a pattern shaped like the infinity symbol, although that is largely secondary to its first, extremely useful ability.

Given that every gun in the game takes ammunition of some kind and that you're limited by how much you have on hand, a gun that doesn't need any is going to be very powerful. The Infinity works well as a backup gun when you're running low on resources, damaging enemies without spending any of your ammo.

The weapon can theoretically be found randomly in any loot source. However, it has a greater chance to drop from Doc Mercy in Three Horns - Valley or the Gold Golem in the Mines of Avarice.

4 Slagga

Finally, we come to what may be the best legendary SMG in the game: the Slagga. This one is always a slag weapon, and has an incredibly high chance to apply a slag elemental effect to its targets, firing three projectiles at a time to increase the chance of hitting an enemy.

It also deals no damage to slagged targets, which may make it seem a little underpowered. However, the reason this gun is at the top of the list is due to the fact that slagged targets always take more damage from other sources. Given that the Slagga will almost always slag your foes, that make it the perfect gun to apply this effect, and then switch to another one to burn your enemies down. It may not have the most damage, but various other features make it one of the best legendary guns in the game.

It can often be found from Tector & Jimbo Hodunk in The Dust.

3 Lyuda

Not to be mistaken for the legendary sniper from Borderlands 3, this Vladof weapon thrives on its elemental power and unique bullet behavior which maximizes the DPS. A fired projectile will split into three, coasting towards targets in a flat horizontal trajectory. Not only this, but the sniper also grants a 125% base crit bonus to boot, which is pretty easy to pull off given its sharp accuracy.

Between its high damage, long-range, and resourcefulness when it comes to ammo, this is an all-around solid sniper rifle.

It is most often dropped from Gettle located in The Dust.

2 Norfleet

Borderlands 2 Norfleet Boss Fight Voracidous

Those looking to melt baddies, badasses, and bosses alike should look no further than this borderline-nuclear weapon. The Norfleet blasts some of the highest damage output possible in the game, with its shots that fire off three large projectiles per shot. Though the trajectory is somewhat erratic, this monster really thrives as a boss slayer - especially with its bonus elemental damage.

It can be dropped from Vermivorous the Invincible or more rarely from Hyperius the Invincible (Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty).

1 Unkempt Harold

Borderlands 2 Unkempt Harold

Among BL fandom, the double penetrating Harold is widely considered the pistol of all pistols in terms of sheer damage output.

While small, the gun truly packs a punch that can effectively obliterate foes from close or medium range with its splitting, horizontal shots. Up to seven bullets can hit a target in one fell swoop, instantly multiplying the already sick damage output. This is really akin to a mini rocket launcher with its wide spread and explosive shots. At the same time, it maintains the relative accuracy and compactness of a pistol, making it the best of both worlds.

This beast is most often dropped from Savage Lee in Three Horns - Divide.
