Like other games in the series, the fan-favorite Borderlands 2 is brimming with tons of loot - particularly when it comes to awesome weapons. To be sure, this ARPG shooter is known for its run-and-gun insanity and bullet-spraying action.

Yet, there are plenty of great options to shoot for when picking off foes from afar and opting for a more methodical playstyle. Just ask the Vault Hunter, Zer0 - the sharpshooting Assassin.

With that said, there are some sniper rifles so good that just about any class and build can do work with them effectively. This is especially the case with the handful of coveted Legendary snipers.

This list will cover each of the seven available, ranking them according to power and overall efficiency.

7 Skullmasher

Like most on this list, the Skullmasher's mechanics and features don't quite fall in line with the traits of a standard sniper. Though this one is particularly unique in a number of ways, to the point where it can take some getting used to.

A carryover from the original Borderlands, this weapon might throw off some newcomers with its spotty accuracy and weird projectiles. The weapon fires off clusters of five projectiles; which can inflict some real pain if they all actually manage to hit their mark. The issue is, these shots tend to disperse and often miss in advance of their target. Basically, it can be best exploited on slower bosses and larger baddies in general.

It can still be solid at close or mid-range, though this typically isn't how a sniper would be used in the first place. And being a Jakobs, the weapon is somewhat basic elsewhere, with no elemental features.

The Skullmassher is often dropped from Son of Mothrakk in the Wildlife Exploitation Preserve, and from Rakkanoth in Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt DLC.

6 Volcano

Borderlands 2 Volcano

This one is more typical when it comes to the workings of an average sniper, at least in some respects. While its accuracy is quite sharp, its damage is pretty low for this type of weapon, particularly when it comes to critical hits.

Living up to its name, the rifle comes laced with Incendiary, though there are no other elemental variants. Its fire damage can add some supplemental DPS, but it shouldn't be relied on as the main source of damage.

It's also unique in its ability to spread damage to nearby targets in the form of its fire. It's a neat little feature, but wielding a sniper capable of area-of-effect damage might be jarring to some.

It has an increased chance of dropping from the Warrior, as well as the Handsome Sorcerer in Dragon Keep (Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep).

5 Invader

This thing could be quite the beast in the right hands, particularly when those hands belong to Zer0 the Assassin. Even so, the Invader isn't going to be for everyone. It comes with a distinct burst fire and swaying motion when aiming that can take some getting used to.

Getting beyond these quirks, though, the Invader is pretty solid elsewhere. Its base damage is on the low side, but this is somewhat offset with its five-round burst fire, fast reload, and elemental abilities.

It's a bit of a catch-22 in that its accuracy and scope are solid, but the recoil of the burst fire tends to throw some of this off.

It has a relatively high chance to drop from Saturn in Arid Nexus - Badlands.

4 Longbow

There are plenty of riches to be had in the Caustic Caverns, and this Hyperion rifle is one of them. It makes sense that it comes with the Incendiary feature - as it's dropped from the similarly explosive Badass Creeper.

Keeping with the amusing Minecraft theme, it will shoot arrows modeled off those in that sandbox phenom.

Still, the Longbow is more than just a neat little novelty. It can pack quite a punch, and be efficient in doing so. Though it's missing a scope and fires in a slight arc, this is mitigated by its surefire accuracy. As long as it's fired at a reasonable range, the Longbow can be deceptively powerful.

3 Amigo Sincero

Those missing the Commander Lilith DLC might be disappointed to learn that this is exclusive to that content, as it's one of the best snipers in the game. Specifically, it's given when completing the optional mission, BFFFs. Still, core game players can get their hands on a similar (albeit weaker) gun in the form of the Trespasser.

This Legendary Jakobs rifle is a beast in a few key areas. Not only does it shoot smoothly and sharply with its fixed scope and high accuracy, but it also deals loads of damage. Additionally, dealing with its semi-automatic firing mode will grant even more damage.

But perhaps its coolest feature is that it completely bypasses shields, allowing you to swiftly put down those more defensive foes.

2 Pitchfork

You wouldn't want to be chased down by angry villagers wielding this Pitchfork...

This Dahl rifle lives up to its Legendary status with its super-high damage, thanks in part to its horizontal five-shot burst. Not only this, but it boasts high accuracy, a large magazine size, and elemental damage, allowing you to melt foes with efficiency. Just be sure to bring enough ammo, as it's a bullet glutton.

It has a greater chance of dropping from Terramorphous in Invincible, assuming you can find it amidst the bounty of other loot.

1 Lyuda

This Vladof weapon - also known as the White Death in the Xbox 360 version - is the best of the best. It's widely considered the best sniper in the game, Legendary or not. You'll have a chance to score one from the Hyperion soldier Gettle in The Dust. Just don't tell Handsome Jack.

It's both powerful and efficient in that it deals a ton of damage, and its shots disperse into three projectiles for the price of one bullet. Its accuracy and recoil are about as sharp and steady as can be. This comes in handy given its 125% base critical hit bonus. Its horizontal spread usually ensures that someone will be struck with this beast.

Its smooth, swift automatic firing almost resembles a high-powered assault rifle more than a sniper.
