Beloved by many, the Borderlands franchise has produced several games, comics, and plenty of fan art and other fan creations. With such bombastic humor to match the loud art style of the franchise, it comes as no surprise that the fan comics drawn are just as silly, but surprisingly witty and (often) self-referential.

But don't count out games outside the main trilogy of Borderlands 1, BL2, and BL3.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Tales From the Borderlands fans also produced their own takes on the series' humorous characters and ridiculous affinity for violence, guns, and internet jokes.

10 Psychos Are People, Too

One of the most iconic characters in the franchise, Psychos serve as the most ubiquitous and generic bad guy in the Borderlands series. They are everywhere, they are insane, and they sometimes kamikaze themselves to take you down. Fans know the drill.

But Psychos are people, too, like this comic from Double XP shows. Krieg, a playable character in BL2 DLC, showed us that these characters can be un-brainwashed to be more than bloodthirsty hellions. They're not bad; they're just driven by a need to kill everything in sight.

9 Handsome Jack Never Changes

Fans laud Handsome Jack as one of the best villains in video game history. They loved him so much that Gearbox, in tandem with now-defunct Telltale Games, resurrected his ghost via artificial intelligence in Tales From the Borderlands as seen in the comic on the right. It also references the classic Vine from Matt Post.

True fans will also recognize that the left comic by Corpse Run references a unique story about Handsome Jack. For those who don't know, there is a line early on in BL2 where Handsome Jack is talking but gets off-topic because the pretzels he's eating "totally suck." The voice actor, Dameon Clarke, totally improvised the line.

8 Forever Bros Forever, Bro

It's the bromance all fans love to ship or totally ignore: Rhys and Vaughan. Fans of BL3 will recognize the joke of the comic on the left by Tumblr user organiclemonade. Though the player cannot influence Vaughan's attachment to this cape, one can tell Rhys to embrace or ditch that mustache of his.

But their friendship started when they were both lowly pawns at Hyperion before Handsome Jack's death in BL2. The comic on the right by Tumblr user browsdraws shows them in their pre-Pandoran states.

7 Office Wars: Borderlands Edition

Throughout BL3, the rivalry between Atlas and Maliwan rages at the cost of many lives, resources, and time. But not all of the competition has to be bloody, right?

Office shenanigans don't just belong to the members of the American adaptation of The Office. Twitter user @Wendigutz encapsulated their relationship perfectly after another user @albinochu pointed out the similarity to Dwight (Katagawa, Jr.) and Jim (Rhys).

Of course, the player totally kills Katagawa, Jr. in BL3, but that's neither here nor there. That's just business in a world with unfettered capitalism, spaceships, and magic aliens.

6 Pobody's Nerfect

Handsome Jack has a complicated history when it comes to Vaults and how he came to lord over the Hyperion Corporation. His daughter Angel played a pivotal role in his rise to power, as well as his downfall. In his madness in obtaining the Vault, he may have overlooked a few things - like the daughter he imprisoned betraying him for the "good guys," leading to his death as depicted in a Gru's plan meme by Tumblr user corporatestooge.

However, couldn't Handsome Jack just resurrect himself with his own technology which all of the Vault Hunters use constantly? Fans have rationalized his and Roland's perma-deaths stating the "New U" stations aren't canon.

5 This Parks and Recreation Reference Fits Way Too Well

Another TV show reference, this comic from Descending-bear likens Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Jack's relationships to the ineffable Andy Dwyer's in season four of Parks and Recreation. Of course, some changes had to be made since robots aren't quite as "advanced" as Claptrap in the Parks and Recreation universe.

True fans of the series will know that Jack and Mad Moxxi dated for a while (as he likes to remind Vault Hunters in many Echo logs). But he dates Nisha (the cowgirl in pink) through the events of BL2 where the player kills her.

4 Fiona Doesn't Understand Technology

Fiona, a character mysteriously NOT present in BL3, featured in the studio crossover game Tales From the Borderlands. She and Rhys became unwitting Vault Hunters when their lives collide and Rhys ends up getting with her sister.

Though tutored by Athena herself, Fiona has a few things to learn when it comes to dealing with technology. Fans of the game will recognize this Redmiel comic's reference to Sasha and Fiona's attempts to make a computer do what they want by screaming "ENHANCE!" over and over, much to Vaughan's frustration. Pro-tip: Fiona references it later in the game, too.

3 Elpis Base Alpha

In the distant world of the early aughts, a little video debuted featuring gameplay from the game Moonbase Alpha. Just watch the video for yourself and let the excellence watch over you.

For fans who may not have played Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, this comic by DeviantArt user Silsol features Athena (also from the first game) and Wilhelm, who eventually becomes a giant robot in BL2 due to his obsession with cybernetics because of a rare bone disease he had since childhood? There's a great deal to unpack with his character.

2 The Ammo Grind Was Real

In the beginning, when Borderlands was but a wee little franchise and guns didn't have legs, the Vault Hunters inhabited a seemingly more desolate and lonely Pandora. This came with certain inescapable obstacles that, though related, weren't the crazy monsters trying to kill you.

Ammo and money were extremely scarce originally in BL1. But you could find resources anywhere including toilets (like this comic by DeviantArt user Gambitismylover shows). This trend continues to this day, but the toilets are just fancier and spew more realistic effluvia now.

1 Wholesome Calypso Twins

The main antagonists in the third game of the series weren't always attention-hungry meme lords. They were kids, too, like this comic by Reddit user Lazuliard shows. When the Calypso Twins escaped isolated life with their dad to Pandora, they only had each other to count on and confide in.

Of course, Tyreen quickly became a wild-eyed, power-seeking streamer-like figure with Troy playing second fiddle to her Queendom. But he was the mastermind behind her marketing and PR branding, so she keeps him around.
