According to a leak, Borderland: Game Of The Year Edition might be on its way to Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The Borderlands series has lied dormant for quite some time. Fans of the looter shooter (or “shlooter”) series haven’t had much to do since the release of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Anyone who's been wishing for Borderlands 3 to not only come out, but to even be announced may still be waiting for some time.
So, why not go back to where the series began for a bit of a refresher course?
If a recent leak is correct, it would appear that Borderland: Game Of The Year Edition may be coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4. This would mark the very first appearance of the game on new consoles, as it was excluded from The Handsome Jack Collection re-release package of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that a leak or rumour of Borderlands being released on modern consoles has come out. The game has previously shown up on listings for the Taiwan and Korean rating boards, so news of its existence has been going around for a little while now.
This leak, however, comes right from the ERSB website, which provides it with more credibility on our side of the world. The listing also goes through the various factors that cause this game to be a "Mature" rated game, even if maturity is the last thing you think of when Borderlands is brought up.
The listing also mentions the dreaded phrase "in-game purchases," leading some to worry that micro-transactions may be coming to the 10-year-old game. However, considering that it hasn't even been officially announced yet, it may be a bit early to be concerned.
The game may get its official announcement when Gearbox speaks at PAX East on March 28th. Fans are hopeful that Borderlands 3 will finally have its existence confirmed at that event as well, although Gearbox has disappointed us on that front before. It has also said that a new non-Borderlands related game will also be shown at the event, although it's hard to say how excited fans are about that.
There's no word on whether Borderlands: Game Of The Year Edition will be a straight up re-release or if there will be any remastering done to the decade-old shooter. Hopefully, when Gearbox gives its big PAX talk, it will pull some cool new stuff out of the vault.
