At times, boss fights represent a pivotal moment in the game's story arc. From hide-and-seek boss fights to horror games' worst boss clashes, not only are you defeating your nemesis to progress the storyline, but you're also there to reap the spoils of war. You think of the absolutely smashing time you will have when using this infinitely powerful weapon, only to be disappointed beyond measure.

You would expect to wreak as much havoc and damage as the boss that wielded it, inflicting hellfire and godly retribution on your foes. These boss weapons really put a dampner on everyone's spirits, serving as a reminder that although you've defeated god-like beings, you'll never be a god yourself.

6 Assassin's Creed Odyssey - The Staff Of Hermes Trismegistus

assassin's creed odyssey - Staff of Hermes Trismegistus

The moment you see Pythagoras with his shiny, golden staff, all you can think about is: "I've got to have that". Whether you choose to fight or simply converse peacefully with Pythagoras in Assassin's Creed Odyssey's Atlantis questline, receiving the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus would seem to be the perfect weapon to introduce to your arsenal.

However, this staff certainly does not live up to its name as a godly weapon. Using this staff right off the bat, you can't help but notice how much it has weakened in comparison to when Pythagoras was whacking you with it. Stripped of all supernatural powers it held during the fight, it doesn't even deal that much damage. Overall, it has been ranked one of the worst boss weapons available in the game.

5 Final Fantasy - Excalipoor

Final Fantasy Excalipoor

The discount version of yet another amazing weapon in Final Fantasy's Excalibur, the developer made that point clear when they named it Excalipoor. And it's totally understandable why they named it so, since this sword can only inflict 1 damage. Period.

Excalipoor is used by the optional boss Gilgamesh in Final Fantasy 12, with further appearances in other games in the franchise. Overall, it's a cheap knock-off of Excalibur, but at least the game developers made it obvious that it wasn't meant to be a powerful boss weapon when you use it.

4 Devil May Cry - Yamato

Devil May Cry Dante wields the Yamato Sword

Vergil's main weapon during his boss fight in Devil May Cry 4, the Yamato katana could literally cut through anything, even through the fabric of reality. Fighting Vergil when he uses this weapon makes it seem like he's dangling this golden nugget in front of your eyes, that you could do the same once you defeat him.

But of course, this weapon is another let-down. In the hands of Dante, the Yamato seems to have lost all its special capabilities. Also, Dante's move set for this sword is startlingly limited, relegated to just any old sword lying around that you've picked up.

3 God Of War 2 - Head Of Euryale

God of War 2 Kratos obtains the Head of Euryale

One of the sisters of the infamous Medusa, the Gorgon Euryale was an unforgettable fight Kratos underwent in his bloody quest in God of War 2. Her petrifying gaze and large, sweeping tail make for an annoyingly difficult boss fight, but you charge on with the hope of Euryale's head as a brutally effective weapon.

The problem is that the time it took for Euryale's head to turn an enemy into stone is too long to be truly effective. Furthermore, not all enemies are susceptible to Euryale's petrifying effects, which really sucks. What's worse, while you're using the Head of Euryale, it drains your FP, which is an aspect that is so hard to replenish compared to HP. It's truly a bummer in every sense of the word.

2 Elden Ring - Axe Of Godfrey

Elden Ring Wielding the Axe of Godfrey

Attained from Godfrey, the First Elden Lord, this boss is one you meet near the tail end of the Elden Ring's main story. Out of all the Remembrance weapons you can obtain from the bosses of this amazing game, the Axe of Godfrey surely takes the cake for one of the most disappointing boss weapons available.

In the hands of Godfrey, this weapon is one of devastating power and unbelievable damage when aimed at you. It has impeccable range and a true hard-hitter. But when the Lowly Tarnished uses it, it is painfully slow and you'll be mowed down by the time the axe hits its target. It should have been a sign when Godfrey disposed of this weapon for his second phase, resorting to his fists when his own axe couldn't crush the puny Tarnished.

1 Dark Souls 3 - Dancer's Enchanted Swords

Dark Souls 3 Wielding The Dancer's Enchanted Swords

Dark Souls 3's Dancer of the Boreal Valley is remembered as a difficult, yet beautifully designed boss. Garbed in shiny armour and a veiled mask, her graceful movements are both precise and deadly. First armed with a curved sword, the Dancer whips out a second sword as both blades start glowing purple and crimson. Of course, once defeated, you're itching to get your hands on these dual blades.

Unfortunately, it seems these boss weapons serve as nothing more that pretty decor. They are not really that effective against the upcoming bosses after The Dancer, so you are better off sticking with your current weapons and using the boss souls to level up. Although the armour is undoubtedly gorgeous and utterly badass, we can't say the same with these boss weapons.
