The Bravely Default series will return to mobile in the form of a new game Brilliant Lights, as announced via the reveal of its trailer on Wednesday morning.

The list of significant anniversaries being celebrated by various video game series this year is a long one. Sonic, Pokemon, Tomb Raider, and Crash Bandicoot are just a few of the household names with a milestone birthday to celebrate this year. However, while many anniversaries are being all-but ignored (we're looking at you, Donkey Kong) Square Enix has decided to get in early for Bravely Default's birthday.

Square Enix has announced Bravely Default Brilliant Lights, a mobile game coming soon to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the series. The thing is, Bravely Default won't technically celebrate that milestone until next year. Neither the trailer nor the concept art showing off the game mentioned a launch date, so it's possible Brilliant Lights doesn't actually arrive on iOS and Android until some time in 2022.

As for the game itself, you can check out what Square has been willing to reveal at this early stage in the trailer above. Fans of the Bravely games will recognize some of the characters on show, as well as the battle system in play. It has been tweaked slightly to optimize the game for smartphones. It will also be free-to-play and include microtransactions.

Square Enix clearly sees the worth in mobile games right now as more and more of its series are venturing onto the platform. Earlietr this week a Fullmetal Alchemist game was announced for mobile. Not to mention the two Final Fantasy 7 mobile games, The First Soldier and Ever Crisis, that are also in the works and will both be here before the end of 2022.

As for other big birthdays you have to look forward to before the arrival of Brilliant Lights, Sonic is showing up in all sorts of weird and wonderful places to celebrate turning 30. Pokemon has also gone all out to mark 25 years since the franchise began. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will be here before the end of 2021, with Pokemon Legends Arceus following up shortly after to kick off next year.
