Zelda Breath of The Wild modernized the franchise by taking inspiration from popular open-world games, while still holding on to core elements of what makes a Zelda game special. It is hard not to fall in love with Breath of The Wild as it gives you total freedom to play how you want and even encourages you to get lost in its world and not feel bound to any linear story progression.

With the success of Breath of The Wild, a sequel felt inevitable, and when we got news of the sequel last year we were ecstatic. Game development takes time, so we were not expecting to see Breath of The Wild 2 for quite a while, but that does not make the wait feel any less excruciating. Unfortunately, it seems that if you were waiting for more news on the anticipated sequel, get ready to wait some more.

During the announcement of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Eiji Aonuma thanked fans for their continued support and love of the franchise, but they would need to wait for more news on Breath of The Wild 2. Simply put, the game is still early in development needs far more time to before any significant reveals are made, and not promise players something the development team cannot deliver.

While the news is a bummer for some, it is good to know that the sequel is not being rushed and receiving the same amount of polish that made the first game so fun. Luckily Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity takes place within the Breath of The Wild timeline, a prequel, so we have something to look forward to in terms of lore and exploring Hyrule.

There was no mention of possible delays, but one could surmise that with the recent pandemic and the shift to working that Breath of The Wild 2 remotely, the game is going to see some delays. Judging by fan reaction to the news, most fans are pretty understanding of the situation and are just happy to know that the game is not being rushed. Here is to hoping that we can see a glimpse of the sequel in the next year.
